wow, wish i could have seen the race.

kenyans are his kryptonite
Why? Winning at regionals is mostly pointless, especially in that region, if you already know that you're going to nationals and have to race the distance again in 9 days.
I agree completely, hammering for the win today would've only hurt his chances of winning the race that matters.
It's his first collegiate cross country race that he's lost besides nationals, that's why it's news.
You're right that it doesn't matter for now though. Hope Josh gets Korir back when it counts.
215 201 504 Liam Arocho Norfolk State 10:06.70 29:08.15 37:51.45
That guy was all state in VA his senior year. This is why you shouldn't go to norfolk state.
But
219 205 645 Chris Williams Wofford 11:06.60 31:33.75 40:55.65
put in a great result. Huge pr!! Wofford ftw!!
Then maybe his focus is where it should be, unless his regional race last year was just a lot less competitive.

But who says he didn't hammer it? Josh has always raced to win, no matter the venue. Did we still get a story on why he lost all that time (10-15 seconds??) in the last 200M? Did he fall? I could've been in my achilles cast after surgery and been....well okay Josh's finish wasn't that bad.
Looks like the Kenyan handed it to him over the last 2k. Maybe he wanted to save it up for NCs. Is Korir now a fav for NCs?

Sorry.... It was a 10K. I must really be slow these days to see those times, and think 8K.
Ill predict right now McD will win nationals. He probably jogged the last 2k. This is a smart move by him.
I was there. He was trying to win. He kept matching surges till the last 800 when he couldn't do it any more. There was only a 10 sec gap that doubled the last 400. He ran to win but just didn't have it today.
I picked McDougal to win last year and really liked the way he runs but after his poor showing today, it looks like his running career is in a downward spiral. He has never really lived up to the expectations everyone had of him. He should have won two national championships by now and has not even come close to running in the low 13's for 5k. I hope he can salvage the season and at least finish in the top 20 next week.

I agree. Josh losing his very first non-nationals race, points to the gutter.
i totally agree. next thing you know he'll only win the 5000 outdoors, completely FAILING to win the 15, 5, 10, and 100m. what a poor coach he has, some guy who claims to be an all-american from some cheap school on the west coast.
McD may as well skip nat's, no point in allowing this spiral, he should quit now while he's only slightly behind.
my worthles .02
dude-
Its only one race. Josh will be back but either way, he is having a great run with a bright future.
BUT CAN HE REGAIN THE FOCUS TO WIN NATIONALS"?

Perhaps he is starting to mature as a competitive runner. How much "glory" is involved with winning your 5000m semi-final heat at the NCAA T&F Championships? Essentially, none. All that matters is that you have qualified for the race that does count!
Last week he was watching an episode of the "L-word" and now the Lord has punished him for that sin.
I was there and from what it looked like McD was trying. He was matching surges and looked like he was in a lot more pain than Korir. Korir was effortless and just pulled away. McD tried to go but couldn't match it. Yes he sort of bagged it in, but only after he realized he didn't have it.
By the way his legs were buckling during the last 300.
