I would apologize to both if they would simply come into work. Greg is still in the hospital with so-called "concussion" and "cerebral hemorage." Waaaaaahhhhh. Alison is out indefinitely on some sort of stress-leave. To make matters worse, both have written Dean K. and asked him to raise money for their medical expenses. It's been a bad week.

re: the Alison and Greg episode... brilliant, there is something quite funny about the fact that you can attain such a high level in running, and be fitter than most other sports people alive, and yet be totally anonymous, and get no respect for it.

I am too. When walking fast I can get my HR up to 98-99 and hold it there. On the verge of breaking into a run it reaches 100.

I figured this out because I wanted to know what my HR was while walking. I put on my HRM and watched it. Even riding my bike at a very low effort it AVERAGES 120.

I can't see how someone could run at 108-110. Evne jogging should be harder than that.

Dean Kamazes would not make most WOMEN's NCAA Division 1 cross country teams. The guy is a total fraud...the perfect icon for fat, dumb middle America.

bad comparison. J-Lo markets herself as an "entertainer." Entertainers dont have to be good at anything, so long as they entertain, and that J-Lo does--along with Madonna, who's no great singer (though she's gotten alot better over the last decade). I dont think either of them would rank themselves among the great singers of history.

No one would confuse either of them with say a Judy Garland or Carly Simon.

Too many people, though, mistakenly take Karnazes' shenanigans as indication that he is a great athlete.

Ouch...the part about Karnazes maintaining 108 bpm during a marathon could be true because he's going so damn slow.

I expended more energy taking a size 9 dump this morning than Deano does all day running.

I'm an accountant and there is a co-worker of mine who does marathons like twice a marathon and always bragging about them and displaying his finisher's medals at work.

As bad as normally listening to him is, he recently paid the 100 dollars to run with Dean when he was here in town doing this 50/50/50 thing.

Now if I see the guy approaching I walk straight to the bathroom and lock the door.

Yes. And it is essentially the same conversation that occurs when you blow up and have a crappy race, but everyone in your office thinks your 3:20 or whatever is awesome because you finished in the top 1000 of a 34,000 person field. In reality, you know you completely blew it, but to be polite you just accept their compliments. It's the same with Karnazas. He doesn't impress most runners who go out any really lay it on the line in a marathon. That's because most people think just finishing a marathon is an amazing accomplishment, and that includes most people who run marathons! I've only run 2 marathons and I've sucked both times, but I will never run one just to finish and get the shirt. Most people can run a marathon. It takes balls to race one. I'd like to see how Dean K would hold up if he actually raced just one or two of these 50.

I was about to make a comment about poor journalism and then I realized that it was _Dean_ who had said this. Does Dean, the self-proclaimed running Richard Simmons to inspire physical fitness, really think the average runner has a 108 HR in a 5K race?!?!?

It could be a typo as any normal person knows its around 180 beats per minute.

I got yelled at by an official at a triathlon this weekend because I was laughing at a guy who had paid to run with DK and was wearing the shirt, and bragging about it to ladies.

Front page article in The Washington Post a few days ago. I'm sure there are many other examples.
