I was looking at the prelim photos from Chicago on Marathonfoto.com and noticed how small they are.
I remember that there used to be a trick that would allow you to enlarge those photos to a decent size. Does anyone know that trick?
Thanks

Sure, so a company that actually providews a service that we like can go out of business.
Just buy the pic..
Yes, here is what you do:
Scroll down and find the picture that you want to see enlarged.
Select the picture by clicking on it.
When your picture is selected, choose what size you want.
Then, enter your payment information and pay the good company what it is owed.
Well imagine that! Posters at letsrun, the place where it's cool to say you stock your refrigerator with stolen post race food, frown on cool max running gear as tooexpensiveyuppiewear and gasp at the price of a cup of coffee from Starbucks, are actually suggesting another runner pay full price for something!!!
It's not just about paying the money. Those thumbnail pics are often so small that you can't tell a thing about whether or not it's a decent shot and worth buying. Many sites allow you to click on the thumbnail for a bigger size so you can tell more about what the photo actually looks like (Brightroom, for example). Marathonfoto doesn't do this, which makes their site a lot less user friendly in my opinion.
I hope you didn't PAY for the race.
Years ago, if you "right clicked" the image and selected the "properties" option, a web address would appear. From there, you would copy the link and paste it in your browser.
At the very end of the address was a "T". If you deleted the "T", the image would appear much larger.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and the wise folks at marathonfoto now only post pictures that are similar in size to a sugar packet.
Give the guy a break. He was probably trying enlarge the race photos from the thread on Stephanie Herbst like I was

I suppose some panhandler that comes up and washes your window at a stoplight with a dirty rag is owed money.
A company that negotiates with the race director to take exclusive pictures during the race, takes a picture of your likeness, obtains your e-mail, and schills photo's for 15 bucks pop is owed something? All the guy wants to do is look at something larger than a thumbnail. I can hardly read my number in half of the shots. Any good photo service would just come up with a water mark across the picture and allow you to blow it up to full screen so you can actully see if the photo is worth your money.
Somebody providing a service you did not request is not owed a dime.

As soon as you want to see it in a larger fashion, then you ARE REQUESTING A SERVICE.

Yep, and when the company won't figure out a way to let me see a version of the photo where I can tell what it really looks like, I politely decline their crappy service.
If places like ASI and MarathonFoto would charge a reasonable amount for their crap phots, I'd be much more inclined to buy them.
I'm in agreement with the original poster - the pictures are too small. It is not too much to ask for the ability to enlarge it a little and not say to the entire size of my screen, but at least 2x the current thumbnail size. The cost of the pictures is extremely high such that it is not unreasonable to expect to be able to see the picture a little larger. They are charging $85 for a cd of all your pictures and $100 for a flash drive of all your pictures. For such sums one should be able to see a bigger picture before purchasing.
Having ranted my wife took pictures so I wouldn't have to order any if I had wanted to.
I'm not sure what Chicago has for people on the course taking random photos, but maybe they have something like we have in Boston:
go to
He (or someone at his crew) is usually at the big name races in the Boston area and takes photos you can do whatever you'd like with.
The used to be by changing the URL of the photo from the web page, you could browse to a larger version. But MarathonFoto caught on to that a long time ago and it no longer works.
Best wanker site is trackandfieldphoto.com. The pictures are large already.
Just to clear my conscience and set the record straight....No way in hell would I pay to buy those photos without first actually being able to SEE them. I'm not wanting to get something for nothing. I bet marathonfoto, et al could figure out a way to show larger photos without letting us save them.
