Did anyone heard the rumor that Strauman of IUP ran a 4:10.2 mile time trial Tuesday by himself? I think he is running at Bucknell this weekend but not sure what.

don't they just modify the time needed to qualify on a different length track for indoor?

no, an indoor track can't be over 300m and a time ran on a 400m track will not be converted or considered at all for NCAA Q-times.

Here are some things I would like to see this indoor/outdoor track season.

1. Weiss, Blood, Bluman, Niemira all run the 10k at outdoor nationals. Reagan and Arthur too, unless they want to focus on the 5k. Clark if he is not redshirting...but I believe he is.

1a. Weiss run the 5k also at nationals, I have no idea why he did not last season.

2. Strauman from IUP actually RACE the first 400 of the 800 at the national meet. I thought he could have been outdoor national champ last year if he was not DFL through 400. Nobody has a kick like his, he just need to get himself in positon to use it.

3. Cummings, Spidell, and Pinto fight for AA honors in the 1500, and to see a great 1500m race at outdoor PSAC like we had last year.

4. I would also like to see who will be top in the Steeple this season, with Robson and Hansloven gone the championship is wide open I think.

If you saw his performance last year at outdoor nationals, (and all previous outdoor nationals) he would have placed higher if he was not in dead last at the 400 meter mark. He looked to even be out of all-american contention with 200 to go, but his nasty kick brought it in at the wire. All I am saying is if he came through the 400 meter mark just behind the leaders I don't think they could have hung with him in a final kick.

I have not checked the Bucknell Results, or heard anything about that race, but it sounds like he is on the right track to put himself into national championship contention. I hope he does it.

I apologize, I did not mean to type "out of all-american contention" obviously he already was an all-american because he was in the finals. The point I am trying to get at is that at no point in time in the nationals race was he in contention to win it, and with his ability level he should known as a favorite to win it.

maybe he runs his own race? and he has his own plan going into it? theres a reason why he was in 8th through 400m in indoors last year and finished 2nd. because he doesnt kill himself the first 300, 400 meters in.

i say if it got him to 2nd indoors and 4th outdoors, he should do what plan works for him.

as far as 200m left. he should be farther up. he needs to make his move with 300m left instead of waiting until 200m left. THAT is a sound arguement. but whats the point in going out in :51 or :52 400ms and coming back in :57 or :58. i think he would rather go :54 then :54

Don't get me wrong, I am not attacking him. He is an excellent runner, significantly faster than I will ever be in the 800. I posted that mostly because I heard a very highly respected and accomplished coach in the PSAC say the same thing to one of his runners at the PSAC outdoor. He simply stated that if he plans on winning an OUTDOOR national title he will have to learn to go out faster to be in position to make a move to win, he said that he does not need to go out in the lead, but be "in contact" with the lead pack at 400. After I overheard this conversation I started to pay more attention and I agree now.

To clarify, this coach was talking to his runner about what Strauman needs to do to win nationals.
