If he can help me, would it be immediate? How much could I expect to drop from my pr? Need advice from elites or anyone who has been through this before.

check your regimen and your desire.
learn how to spell the word first
My pr was 19:00. Got hypnotized ... ran 15:23 and change. No lie. The change was immediate.

Yes, 4 minutes of change.

yeah, I don't think anybody really cares if someone runs 15:23.2 or 15:23.8
I have never felt better in a race. I ran a 4 minute pr and it actually felt better than when I was running in the 19's. No lie.
Hahahahaha....c'mon...this is one of the funniest letsrun threads ever.
God I Love Letsrun!
Uhh...by psychiatrist I hope you mean hypnotist. I think you might be confused about the field of psychiatry.
I pity you.

My wife Florence (you know her as Flo-Jo) was just an average world-class runner until, in the winter of 1987, we hypnotized her. After that she ran 100 meters in 10.49, ran the 200 in 21.33, won two Olympic gold medals, one silver medal, and the heart of millions of Americans.
The allegations that we hypnotized her to follow the steroid & HGH regimin that a friend and I laid out for her are complete BS. Florence was all natural and 100% wo-man.
While you are a little confused (for instance, you would go to see a psychologist, not a psychiatrist) about the process of hypnosis, yes, this does work for some people. Well-trained psychologists who specialize in hypnosis can actually convince clients that they are blind or paralyzed. (Read up on "Hysterical Blindness" if you like.) However, sometimes people's expectations exceed the results, and it may take several sessions. But do your research and find a REPUTABLE, well-trained PSYCHOLOGIST (not hypnotist) who has a real degree from a well-known university. Only they know what they're doing.

I'd be more impressed if they could make a blind or paralyzed person convinced they were cured.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. Train buddy and you will run. there is no hypnosis magic!
It is not immediate at all. It takes several trips and it mirriors the idea of mental imagry and mental rehearsing. You cannot be hypnotized to run under 10 seconds in the 100m if you don't have the physical aptitude. It acn increase your training ability much like muscle memory does time after time.

Psychatrists are medical doctors and specialists in giving drugs to people that shrink their brains and make them stupid. Look it up. Many of the drugs cause chemical lobotomies. If you get on their hit list, they will try to force you to take the drugs. Best advice is to stay far away from them.
You can hypnotize yourself which, unless you find someone -anyone- who knows what they're doing, is the best way to do it.
I reccomend better training rather than hypnosis.
does anyone know if there are any good books on self-hypnosis for these purposes?
If I hypnotize myself, who's gonna wake me up? Plus how do I know when to stop in a race? Won't I just keep running?
