What is the U.S. and world 5k record for "over 50" age group? 10/2/2006 3:02PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Anybody know what the U.S. and World 5k road race records are for men over 50? I have not run in about 5 years. I ran a 15:58 in a road race at age 45 though. I'm thinking about getting back into it. If I find out it is in the 14's ... forget it, but if it's in the 16's ???

There were a bunch of World records just set over the weekend. A 61 year old ran 14:01 and a 56 year old ran 14:11 !!!

Check out the thread:

You might as well just hang it up, my friend. Have you ever tried race walking ??

I'll try to give you a serious answer.

According to this site (http://www.world-masters-athletics.org/records_output/rec_list_outdoor_m.php), the 50+ world record is 14:53 by Martin Rees. I don't know about the US record.
Aren't you gullible

Go to the link on that race that had all the fast times.

That's just a local fun run. Must have been almost a mile short. There is NO WAY that is even close to accurate. What a joke.

Jim has participated in all 38 of the US Masters T & F Champs, all but one World meet and recently announced his retirement from competition. He's 81 now. You don't think he has a few stories he could tell?

15:58! Yup, you might as well hang it up before you start. 15:58 is tempo pace for most better than decent 50 year olds.

The US record is 15:41. This guy has run 15:58. That's not that far off. I say GO FOR IT. Any 45 year old who runs 15:58 has my respect. That is very respectable. Don't listen to this juvenile sitting in his dorm room. He's probably only been away from mommy for a year or two.

the world track record for the 5k is held by the 214 marathoner from israel who has run 21659 this year as a 51 year old. he ran 1407 on the track, but he himself says he is 44, though the iaaf list him as born in 1955.
