I believe malmo is posting relative humidity and then temps, and then both wind speed and direction.
I disagree that this was the best marathon ever run, given the wide variation in the splits, even accounting for the big drop at the end due to the poor conditions.
To review: 1:02:30 was the goal for half (14:48 5k pace)
_5 km: 00:14:44 / 0:14:44 (O.K. exactly goal pace)
10 km: 00:29:55 / 0:15:11 (What's up with this?)
15 km: 00:44:51 / 0:14:56 (O.K., a bit slow)
20 km: 00:59:30 / 0:14:39 (a bit too fast)
25 km: 01:14:19 / 0:14:50
30 km: 01:29:06 / 0:14:47
35 km: 01:43:37 / 0:14:32 (went too soon)
40 km: 01:58:57 / 0:15:21 (victim of the conditions)
Finish 02:05:56 / 0:15:48 (pace) DIED!
The 2nd 5k really threw a wrench in the plans, and represented the 16 seconds lost at the half, which they hit in 1:02:46. For some reason, at 30k Geb seems to have paniced, and really over did it. (14:32!?)
Certainly, better pacing before 35k would have gotten Geb there in better condition to attack the last 7.2K.
Again, Geb is the victim of bad pacing (and bad rabbits) as well as the conditions.
I have no doubt Geb is probably the most talented runner ever to tackle the marathon, and he should put up the best time ever, but his execution is still not perfect.
