did anyone else think it was ridiculous that bekele said the race (world cup 3k) was hard without rabbits. thats freakin' ridiculous. rabbits are a terrible concept outside of perhaps world record attempts. clearly elites rely way too much on rabbits.

I think rabbits are a good thing, I think without them, the race is otherwise going to be a sit-back and kick. I don't like watching sit-back and kick races because you have to watch the entire race for 30 seconds of action. Rabbits keep the action going all the way through, as athletes who aren't on their game get dropped of the back. In a sit-back and kick race, these not as strong athletes would still have a chance to win. Rabbits let the cream of crop rise to the top.

I don't like watching slowly pulling away, one man show races because you have to watch the entire race without any action. Not having rabbits keep the action going all the way through, as the suspense is kept up by surges, long kicks/short kicks, many lead changes, and an exciting finish. In a rabbited race, these athletes who aren't the traditional favorites won't have their chance to upset the best in the world, and create new champions. Not having rabbits let the REAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACERS rise to the top.

Bekele is a 3 time world champion and olympic gold medalist on the track. Despite the fact that he made that statement, everyone knows that he can run pretty damn well when there are no rabbits.
very true he can run crazy fast without rabbits. what i think is sad is that from his comment he seems to think that running good races relies upon having rabbits. if that is true then that is sad. and without rabbits races would not just be sit and kick. championship races would be but they always are anyway. people don't just look to win they look to improve their times. so people would not just sit and kick. hell look at any high school/college race. very few are sit and kick because people are trying to actually beat other runners at their best and on their own, without having to follow a rabbit.
Just give me the word and I'll take care of those silly wabbits.
