I thought their parents would figure out a way to buy them out of the charges. Surprising punishment.

This artical doesn't mention the others involved at all. I think there was 2 others that were involved. And who pays the rest of the money for the damages they caused?

What punishment? 90 days, a little litter pick up, and rich mommy and daddy paying the $100,000 each? If it were my home, I would have knee-capped both of them with a charred 2 x 4.

the other two were juveniles i believe. Im fairly certain that it is not legal to release their names because they were under 18.

I heard that Coach Newton helped them burn the house down in order to get pumped up for the state meet.

When you have 300 kids turn out for cross-country, you are bound to get a few firebugs in there somewhere.

I dont think any of this has anything to do about Coach Newton. i dont even think these kids are all bad, they just did something realy stupid. Think of all the stupid thing you did when you were young that didnt get caught or something that could have done some damage but didnt. Dont get me wrong I do think they should be punished and I think they should be held accountalbe for what they did. Just dont try an blame it on bad parents or coaching. Its a good lesson that can can tell kids that everything they do can effect rest of thier lifes.

This is more than a boys will be boys, break a window playing ball thing. They burned down a house you dope.

Maybe they did get off lightly in a sense but 1) 90 days in jail isn't a picnic for rich pretty boys and 2) they have the felony thing that will follow them forever. Plus if I were one of their parents they'd have a tough time working off that 100 grand plus interest.

Although under the state sentencing guidelines this could be much more, their sentence is more than sufficient. 90 days straight jail, and then 9 months of work release. Doesn't sound bad to a hardened criminal - to a lilly white kid from suburbia, this is the bottom. Plus, they have the felony arson conviction on their record. Definitely will affect the rests of their lives and want they want to do.

What was the prank? Burning down a house? Man, kids have changed.

If they were stud h.s. football players, they'd have had a booster hire Johnny Cochran, and they would be free and clear.

Sounds tough enough to me - can you imagine showing up to school from prison every day?

The punishment seems about right - except for the part where they don't have to pay for the damage. 100k is not 1.3 million bucks. They should have to pay ALL of it. The insurance company nor the consumer should pay a dime to cover the costs of those two little punks' actions.

They're not going to prison, they are going to jail. Huge difference. TV magazines, bad food, their cellmates will be small time punks - duis, theft, simple assaults, missed court appearances, awaiting bail, etc.

Perhaps the rape factor won't be as great but little 120 pound boys are going to get some beat downs on a regular basis. County jails still attract some toughs on short sentences like gang bangers, meth freaks, dudes who just like to fight, etc.

Except it wouldn't be Johnnie Cochran, as he's been dead for a year and a half.
