From Amy Shipley's original August 19 Washington Post story about Marion's a-sample turning up negative:
The positive test, if supported by the B sample, could end Jones's career. It would be the latest in a string of blows to a woman once considered Nike's biggest client and arguably the most marketable female athlete in the world. She established herself as one of the best athletes in Olympic history when she claimed three gold medals and two bronze medals in Sydney.
----
This is why confidentaility with all these tests MUST BE maintained. Jones is arguably the biggest reputation in this sport. She has been damaged and lost income. And, in her case, this could run into the millions.
So what started as negative drug test for Marion could now turn into a serious credibility issue for the USADA, and by implication, WADA. If Jenkins b-sample turns up negative, Landis and/or Gatlin get off on appeal, drug testing as we know it could be over. It credibility will be gone.
If this happens, it's entirely the fault of these persistent leaks against protocol.
I for one hope she sues USADA. Making them pay might be the only thing to get these leaks to stop and restore in integrity to a system of drug testing that appears to be spinning out of control.
