How could you forget The Last Of The Mohicans?
i just downloaded it off bittorrent. when you see him in front of real runners, his form looks like shit. his running reminds me of tom cruise's (bad!) and does not look like a distance runners. the guy looks like he's going balls out while everyone else looks smooth. anyhow, i still remember watching it with my dad when i was growing up. entertaining movie, especially for runners.
I get sucked into this movie every time I see it. Sure, his form looks nothing like a world class runner. But it's entertaining.
It's appropriate you mention "Last of the Mohicans." I've told friends that that is actually the greatest cross country running movie of all-time. Think of it...Daniel Day-Lewis and the older guy who plays Chingachgook spend about half the movie running over extremely rough rocky terrtain. It's a much tougher course than in "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner," that's for sure.
Who were some of the runners that Murphy raced against in the pen? They looked legit, like they could have been from a college team.
This movie was awesome if you were a 12 year old runner staying up to watch it during a weeknight back in 1979. Its a low-budget TV movie and looks dated so its a hard sell for young runners today. I tried to get the college kids I coached to watch it and they didn't see why I like it so much.
