that's all well and good, and I agree...even if Henry weren't talking about a world class masters career, it would be great to see him at events, signing autographs, selling his book, etc....but, the fact is, he IS talking about making waves on the Masters scene and we fans are all anxious to see it happen!

I spoke to Mike today. I think he wants some more assurances before he springs for a ticket in this case. There's some history . . . .

I love how people are trying to tell Henry Rono how to train and that he needs to start intervals or speed or do time trials right now if he wants to meet his goals.

My guess is that Henry KNOWS what he is doing and doesn't need an internet coach on how to run fast.

Hey Avocado,

You think that it's a good idea to have this whole exchange on the boards? I'd think that, since it looks like his email was received, that they'll be in contact. I don't usually see appearance negotiations played out here.

Masters running, esp. at age 55, is a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME; everyone starts over again.

Henry was seeking some help in communicating with the people at Carlsbad, so I contacted them. I just wanted Henry to know that Mike received his email, and that Henry (or someone acting on Henry's behalf) may need to address certain concerns. As things currently stand, I am not sure whether "they'll be in contact," although I hope "they" will. I would very much like to see Henry run at Carlsbad, and run well.

And yet you ridicule others who have expressed similar "concerns" in this thread. Fair to assume you ridiculed Mike?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Are you that high-school coach ("sprintguru") who accused Henry of being a fraud, based on his confusion about who the race director was for that "Jingle Bell Run" last December?

It is no secret that Henry carries some baggage from the past. I don't blame race directors and athlete coordinators for being cautious now. Henry needs to show them that he deserves another chance. I hope that he does.

lol, no. I'm not the guy from December.

Regarding showing people he deserves another chance, maybe he should pay his own way to a few of these "early" races to show his fitness, as opposed to asking what each race will do for him(as he did again today). Then, once he shows he's serious, like a sub-5:00 mile, he can expect race directors to take him seriously. But based on what he writes here and nothing else? It seems whenever he receives a question regarding weight or fitness, many from you, he ignores it or brushes it off.

Henry, listen closely: Run some races, pay your own way like any other unproven athlete would, and show the world you are indeed world-record capable. Then you will have your choice of opportunities as your fitness proves itself.

To Yup, What time do you want me to do and when? Last month I was running a race in Austin Texas, was there a problem? Also I was running in Cincinnati in December was there anything wrong there too?
If Mike Long would like to invite me, he will.Perhaps he has no money for me otherwise I was thinking he could do the same thing as the last two meets directors have been lately.
How much I weight now as if I'm a meat for sale. The other race directors treatment as no meat. They didn't putt me in scale to check my weight they know I'm a human and I was invited to their races.

How much Henry Rono is weighing now so that we can invite him to the race? Is that sound human? To me it is manupulation.Okay if someone think I was rising hell in the bar sometimes back in which I did,but not the new Henry Rono. I have made some changes in my life,I have made 180 degrees turn. I'm a new kid in town.Every now and then I have two problems.
What do you think are these two problems meet directors keep douding me name them?

Henry, I'm not sure what you mean by "two problems."

I think that you recognize that, in the past, you were not always very reliable. You let some people down. Some of those people were race directors and athlete coordinators. You say that you are "a new kid in town," and you have made some changes in your life, and you have made a "180 degrees turn." I believe you. But you must understand that some people have doubts, based on the past. It is up to you to show them that things are different now.

There are many people here, including me, who want you to succeed.

By the way this evening my speed is really developing realy realy good. The youngsters are really pushing me to the maximum at the same time they are gaining power from the ground base and this for them to succeed on the up coming races, coming very soon.
I did my 50 minutes this evening.

Apparently, you haven't realized that both of those road races brought you in, and presumably paid you in some form or another, because of your PAST accomplishments. If you expect TRACK meet directors to pay you before you show them you might be an attraction to put butts in the seats then you are indeed fooling yourself. Other road races in the future may pay you to come, and that's great. But they have hundreds or thousands of people paying entry fees, and large sponsorship budgets.

Now maybe Mike Long will decide to bring you in. But my guess is he has whatever appearance budget he has earmarked for serious, proven competitors. My advice to you is get on a track, or in a legitimate 5k road race, with results that can be seen by all showing your progress.

Okay!Okay! Okaaayyyy!!!! I do track every evening at Academy and hills in the morning. Would that make any difference to you?

The 281 day of training phase II.25mwp+80mhc+18mcd=123 minutes.

What do think of that? Is that look like I'm training hard or not?
