Arroyo runner: Well, I don't know how generous I am, but I'm a big fan of Henry's (as much NOW as when he was the fastest distance guy on the planet!) I have been drawn to his story, and whether he runs a 15:00 or 19:30 5k, he has shown us alot of courage in his attempt to reclaim the beauty of running. I think that any of us who ran well when we were younger, and struggle now, can especially identify with Henry. I got into the running business with alot less talent than H.R.; the least I can do is get him some running shoes and follow his saga. Because I likewise put on a few pounds after competitive running, I can identify with him and offer some advice on diet, etc. Give Henry advice on running? No way; it would be like someone telling Rembrandt how to paint! Henry's an artist, he knows what to do. If you want to help out with running shoes, or other gear, e-mail me, or contact Henry. I have found Mr. Rono to be a very warm, genuine human being. |

To sumorocks, I know what you mean, runners don't stick together. They are lost because they don't have language of their own. They use is loan to them.Their running feets do the talking and every time they come across discussion about running verbally, they hurt one another. They rock the ship to sink in the Atlantic Ocean, never get to the promise land.Let us hope they will develop the motivational tone to tune us up and our wheels will roll forward. One day they will be mature, some are. Would that make any sense to you at all? Henry |

To Steve Hoag, Thanks Steve,I don't want to claim that I have everything in life either,if I had I could not fell-down in running world. I have talent, nevertheless, something else is missing and your input will make the honey taste alot better. But let us get the right inredience. On the other thread I mean their language is loan to them that is why we are having hard time communicating.Because we are using borrowed thing. Perhaps I talk too much in parables. Henry |

To arroyo runner, The 247 day of training phase II.90mwp + 1 mile trial + 2x800m +4x400m + 4x200m.I almost launch phase III;however, my right quadicep acted up when make left quick turn,a sharp pain responded very bad.I cool it down the pace,so I will give another week, but I will keep the same pace to burn more faty acids. "Is that extra weight," says 70-year-old man.who was jogging beside me, "What is your name," "Henry,"I say "Henry Rono" He said, I said Yes! Oh!! he wonder off for a while, then he told about the injuries about quads and knees,I thought I learn something today from Andrew. It is exactly what you guys, you been telling me.My quads now is swallen up with sharp tender pain. Lose weight and running will be easy. You guys said before. I have a stuborn head,it is not my problem it my thinking is the issue. My breathing and upper body feels great Henry |

The 247 day of training phase II. The evening workout was realy tough one 30mwp + 1 mile time trial + 4x400m + 35m sauna by the end of all that I was really tired. I hope to sleep soundly tonight. My knees and quads got all they needed today.Morning and evening high speed intervals. In the evening, I was breathing very hard, "like a old horse never want to be defeated," said coach's Mike, who was timing us for time trial for his middle school studentHe wanted to break 6:15 minutes a mile and he did today. I was a pace maker for him.I hold the pace for him I was really stuborn too, which means I don't let it out easy for the kid, "stay with him he knows the pace," said the coach.I ran 6:13 min unlike what I did in the morning 6:40min. a mile by myself.Team workout is greta. The Kenyan way. A old guy drugging his belly around the track. I have Mike behind me and finally we hit our target. I have photos too.once are ready I will post in the internet. Today I became certify pace maker for 13-year-old kids to break a mile PRs. This should lead to my mile masters record in the near future right! After that I did my 4x400m 84-80 seconds,I can called it along day today. Henry |

Cool stuff, Henry. I'm looking forward to hearing about Phase III, but I hope you don't rush into it. Remember, that 13 year old isn't the only one you are pacing. There are plenty of us out here on the web running with you in one way or another. Take care, Tek |

I just wanted to comment on the post by jungleroy59: excellents points! just to echo some of your points: I think we also tend to believe that someone who achieves greatness doesn't have to work to get there. I mean look at Henry's training. How many runners are willing to go out and run for the lengths he does - and he is training for a mile. I'm 42 and seriously training and cosider myself to be very dedicated, but I not running anything close to his volume. this is called world-class dedication and I think that is the most important ingredient in acheiving world-class performances. I also liked your point about whether he is a god or delusional: anyone who attempts greatness probably asked themselves that frequently along their path to greatness - if they achieve it then they become a god and if not they were dilusional...so there's the possibility of truly being both during the battle to get there...and perhaps the struggle is where the real heroism lies - being willing to dream the dream and then go for it despite all the obstacles (age, wieght gain, etc). Good luck to you Henry - keep inspiring us...your "delusional" brother and sisters as we chase our goals. |

Henry How fast are you running your regular distance days? I think it would be important for everyone to see that you're probably not running these really fast. The most important part is to get in the total time. Thanks, and keep up the struggle! |

I just got up from another nap,all I need is to make tired.I'm getting somewhere I could feel in burning abdominal internally.I'm grinding those internal chemistry is my greatest achievement;however,my running pace is basically jogging like a old lady, but I can realise some sweat in my body. People dont' understand what I'm doing with my body.My body is not like some of you bodies.Growth hormones took over my internal organs expecially the breathing lungs, that why I was breathing yesterday like horse, the sports car that has been put in a carrage for 20 year.it takes somekind of treatment to take out some residue stuff that is stake in the hose holes. The only treatments is what I have been doing in the last 8 months. You are seeing through out this thread. It takes me back the way I used to train in 1974-76 in Kenya before I got to WSU.Baby steps is the key to my success and what have you. Henry |

what you say sounds good and makes sense; and you can't rush the process in training carefully or you will get injured. I understand; so I am wondering, do you think April and May is too soon for you to jump into serious races against top ranked masters guys? |

The indicators will come from speed workout,I have to post time trials many times around the Academy track.Once I see, feel in my knees and quads in which the mile trials has to be around 5:20 minutes a mile. This should come in six weeks. Stay tune I'm trying to get digital camera that I can connect with internet, perhaps get camera cell phone too. like the one you can see now from yesterday speed workout was from cell phone image. As soon as these running condition comes,I will look for a race right-away to hit it, while I'm still hot to get record time for masters. Henry |
