too bad old Doug Padilla wasnt in the mix. He would have put some smoke to Nyambui. |
| good times..... |
| ||
yes, there in the late 70's, Nyambui and Padilla had some great indoor 2 mile races; not to mention when Rono was in the field; as did Steve Scott, Eamon Coghlan, Ray Flynn and John Walker in the mile. I miss the indoor circut.....but today's spoiled runners only want to run on those fast 200m tracks that the top colleges have, which are faster than outdoor tracks for anything, a mile and up. (no wind, heat, cold). They have nothing to gain, personally by running on a 10 or 12 lap board track in the major city's arenas. |

Malmo, Did you see the summary of the book and the photo on my website on the page About US ?Please let me know, I can make some changes.I'm getting out for my evening run. Henry |

Henry: when you get back from your evening run, Do NOT eat alot of food for dinner or high calorie sodas. If your weight is STILL in the 180s, than you are NOT trying that hard to lose weight; especially with all of the running you are doing. You should be in the mid 170s by now. I'm not trying to make you feel bad or mad, but trying to light a fire under you to get serious, 100%. I want to see you break the same records you broke in 1978, next summer of 2007 for age 55. But you have GOT to get the excess weight off, before you get injured. Not to mention how the quality of your workouts would pick up, just from that alone. good luck! |

| UTEP'S PROBLEMS SOUND FAMILAR? |
| ||
|
THIS GUY describing the current problems at UTEP, sounds like the problems you described with Chaplin and WSU. Quote: As an ex-miner I had work first hand with Coach Kitchens. When I was there the throwing coach was the only one who had some knowledge and true dedication. At that time The rest of the coaches were plain and simple retards----sleeping with their athletes, playing computer games in the office while the team was practicing, and doing their top athletes school homework. Kitcens behaves like Stalin and he only recruits already made athletes, he does not care about building them. He then pimps around with them, when those athletes don t even follow his training for the most part. As anybody can notice on their roster, the only ones trapped over there are internationals that don t know what they get themselves into. Beside this they constantly break NCAA rules and hurt their own student-athletes with unprofessional behavior. There are some nice kids there and I feel for them not knowing better than UTEP. From what I had heard the program was on the verge of being suspended by the NCAA for numerous illegal stuff that is going on a regular basis. My advice to any UTEP track and field student –athlete is to Transfer as fast as you can. It’s much better out there if you make the right decisions. UTEP is really NOT what NCAA track and field experience should be. As a spectator I won t miss them at all at the CC Nationals. Snoochie Boochie RE: UTEP left holding the bag 11 |

Anyone who ever watched Doug explode around an indoor track will agree that no one could match his speed on a short banked track. If he was close, which was most times, the race was over. Just ask Eamonn Coughlan who witnessed first hand Doug's decisive move just after he (Coughlan) had reached top speed in a 5K sprint in Madison Square Garden (sorry can't remember the event). I know it's all "what ifs", but my money would have been on Padilla. Thanks for the stats though. |

The 165 day of training, 39mwr + 66mhc + 17mcd = 122 minutes. I feel way better than before it is coming still 180lbs.I don't know when will be in 170s yet,I'm waiting my body is a slow thinker nowdays.It is like one those old computers that can frustrate you because one can expect to get answers right away.But you don't keep up all you can is just wait and keep doing it until one day the weight pops up right on top of your lap and it is 170slbs or 160 Henry |

The 168 day of training phase II.I drop some lbs today, like I say before I will hank it to 179.9lbs,how is that sound to you? It is progress to me.I did it. At 4:50 am this morning a long Tramway heading north was blue sky and only one stars up in the sky by the time I reach LaLuz Trail road it was the time to make a U turn and back to copper Avenue where I started. My clock is reading 214 minutes.It is a grandy pace.I don't worry about it.It is how my knees can afford to hold it up. Henry |

I've been inspired by your 'comeback thread' on LetsRun.com and am in awe of the mileage/minutes you are putting in....I went from weighing 210 lbs last summer and am now 175 lbs. thanks to your inspiration. My running feels so much easier and is getting faster with each week. I want to get down to 155 lbs by next spring so as to competete at a serious level in the 40-45 age group. My knees hurt when I started back again last June, but losing the 35 lbs, in the past 5 months, has made a huge difference. Thanks again for your inspiration. Good luck with losing your last 30 lbs. It seems to be your only 'sticking point' from what I can tell in your correspondence. Keep at it! You WILL succeed, if you really want to. |

I wasn't sure if you saw this article about Nike brining some Kenyan high schoolers over to Portland for the Nike Team Nationals. I would be curious about your impression of this. |

The 169 day of training phase II.I ran for 129 minutes and I feel great. Going bact to your question.I like the article it is well written and it will open eyes for many people in the world. I recently made some email exchange with Martin Keino after, I read an article by Martin Keino "Athletes need to learn how to save their career taking'.The context it leveals significant impact Martin is about to create for the Kenyan runners. Martin Keino is an advocate for Kenyan runners,he knows when athletes leaves kenya to a promise land like I and many others, their dreams come true. The 170 day of training phase II. 38mwr + 60mhc + 33mcd = 131 minutes. The copper hill climbing is getting me to be in shape and lose weights up to 160s by December 2006. pre841: Are you able to Martin Keino article about the future of Kenyan runners? Have a nice day. Henry |
