I agree with 1500Master. I think the 200's Henry ran show the most. He had to be a little tired from the morning work-out and the work-outs leading up to those 200s. It really depends on how tired he was for those and how rested he is on Sunday. I think the answer if it was a quiz might be what he averaged for the 200's that day. Good luck and have fun on Sunday Henry.

Then someone should have a word with "johnlvs2run" at run-down.com since he/she is posting all Henry's posts there.

J.R. has good intentions, and besides, I don't believe that Wejo really cares about ownership of material that he didn't create. When it comes down to it, it's Henry's material anyway (in spite of forum rules). A non-issue here.

I think 6:05-6:10 sounds pretty accurate at your fitness level Henry. I might just come down to see that race now that I'm feeling emotionally invested in your successes. Best of luck, and Godspeed.

This thread has been a regular part of my morning reading for the last month. I love it; love the insight, love the old pros and long time letsrunners coming out of the woodwork, and I love the peculiar poetry of Henry Rono and his fascinating rejuvination - running through the moonlit hills of New Mexico.

As fortune would have it, I am between jobs for 6 weeks this summer (three to go) and have followed Henry's footsteps into the hills and arroyos near my home. I started out with 80 min runs at super-slo-mo pacing, reasoning that quantity was fine if intensity was inversely related (also b/c that's what Henry Rono was doing and I'm very impressionable to heros from my youth). I think I began with 12min. mile running, similar to a trot after track intervals - s l o w. It was quite nice to focus on my footfalls and balance rather than breathing and strain.

In two weeks I've worked up to 120min runs. My pace has fallen to about 9-10 min. miles but the effort feels the same. I'm up from 8 miles per week to 40. Little strains in my achilles and knees have popped up but are eased away with stretching and swimming. I feel my strength and endurance growing, but there is little fatigue in my legs due to such moderate pacing. Interestingly, as Mr. Rono's writings attest, very little weight has come off - maybe one pound - even though my fitness has improved greatly.

I wish I had learned to run like this years ago rather than with the fleet-footed stubborness that sidelined me so often in life with impatient injuries. My focus is not on any training or upcoming competition, but on my time during the run itself. All very gratifying - just like my time spent reading through this thread.

Great post!

I am currently experiencing a similar path so can relate 100%.

Henry-you will easily go under 6. Good luck!

I'm going to second the 5:33 time - ambition, but with others running and considering he's run 6:20 pace 1500 m in pratice - i think there's some room to jump up the time.

I was able to go through google's cache, and retrieve the old thread up to 7/5/2006, around 7 pm (page 37 of the old thread). There's still about a weeks worth of posts that were never cached by google though, (7/5-7/11) which I couldn't retrieve. Someone let me know if they have webspace where they can share them publicly, and I will send them along via email.

hubitron & Henry: For 7/1 to 7/5 you can bring each of those pages on your screen, one at a time... "copy" each page.... "paste" the copy into a new post here... 7/1 to 7/5 must be...what 5 pages?... Then only a week will be missing, and someone else may find those cache files on their computer?
