Henry,

The Times of London said that your weight is now "a touch over 12st." I think that's about 170 pounds. Is that right? Are you still going to try to get down to your old racing weight of about 140 pounds?

Yes it is right. I'm heading to 140s lbs my old racing weight;however, intervals as time comes and racing will do me 140s lbs.

Just keep putting in a meet and you will see me bringing down my weight right!

That is why I do impress people with my running weights.I do surprised my own athletes that I train with them here in my team-rono training camp.

Henry,

Most of the masters who posted on the recent thread comparing your high school mile times and weights have filled out a little, and the typical weight gain looked like about 10 lbs. Your upper body is a lot stronger than it was in your youth, so I think 150 lbs might be a more practical target than 140. You don't want to lose muscle mass, just that spare tire from too much beer.

Hello Henry,
Spoke with Patti and Dan Dillon last night-they are following along with the thread. I know you and Patti spoke before Carlsbad, she is a great cheerleader!!!. She is always so upbeat.

With the big budget track meets usually not having Masters races it seems like the roads are the only place you can make a few bucks BUT they typically do not pay much(or anything) for masters to run. Most of the time they want you to give a motivational talk and be at the Expos signing and chatting up the runners. Are you open to races that will just pay air/bed/foodtickets/comped bib or do you want to get a fee also?

While no expert I think the spikes should be a gradual thing just like some above have said-build into it slowly.

The weight will get to where ever it will get to. As elders we can not fight its natural stopping point. You'll stop losing weight when you're as fit as you can get not before. Our bodies have changed and the struggle for the last pounds may be better served just looking at getting fitter not by watching the scale.

All we can do is do it one day at a time.
Best
Tom

Absulutely I agree. My upper body is stronger than when I was young. The target then is 150 lbs. Perhaps I will be the owner of this weight by August or september.

Right now my weight still play around between 165-175 lbs;however, developing muscles mass running in the shoulders and core area.Things I never do when I was young.
Team Rono Gym and Team Rono Nutrition will get me there (150lbs).

Just wanted to say what an inspiration you are to me... I like you had faced my own demons (in my case it was 210 extra pounds) that I had to fight my way back. Seeing what you are achieving makes me keep working to not settle with just the weight gone, but setting new goals. I wish you the best in your upcoming races.

Yeah ,I'm open, but I need the date of the meet. For them to pay air/bed/food tickets and also fee apperances the one they can afford. This will help this poor runner to stay on his feet and focus.

Thanks again Tom

The 308 day of training phase II.24mwp +60mhc +27mcd=111 minutes.I'm listening to that hamstring I did iced it up most of yesterday and night and massage it with tiger bump.Still sensitive to stress this morning;however,I manage to run for almost two hours..
This evening I will be working on upper body chest and shoulders to compansate my lower body.I needed that exercise anyhow.

Coming back to you Kent, you set up a goal stay on it your weight will come-down without your eyes seeing it.This is how to trick those pounds sitting on your shoulders to stay away from you.You will have a smiling face as I do nowdays after six to nine months plan.No one day plan or one week or one month. It has to be longer months plan.

To Tom

I think our old ways approaches is better, than today youngsters approach.Sticking your eyes on the scale creates more pressure on you and your focus will stray from getting fit to compete.

We older people we take it as one day at the time or one hour at the time or one minute at the time and in the end we get it.

been there, done that...

Sorry, I don't agree. I think you need to attack your fat and extra weight and 'get it off' and get it over with. You've stalled around too long, esp. this last couple of months, without losing barely any weight, lately. Don't kid yourself. Now, that being said; I am proud of what you have accomplished so far and am pulling for you all the way! You should be able to easily lose 10 lbs in a month with all of the running you are doing. You must be eating alot of food! Slow down at the dinner table and speed up on the roads and track! Nothing but success is in your future.

(I'm laughing now.)

I have to admit that I agree with "been there, done that..." Henry, you have achieved so much since last June, and you are in much better shape now, but you still have a lot of weight to lose if you are to accomplish your racing goals. I think that it will be very hard for you to run much faster if you stay at your current weight. But if you drop 20 pounds during the next couple of months, I think that you will be flying!

One more thing: I don't want to suggest what your weight should be, or how quickly you should get there. I mentioned losing "20 pounds during the next couple of months," but maybe it's 15 pounds or 25 pounds, and maybe it's four months instead of two. You'll have to figure that out. But I think that you will know when you get there. You know your body very well.

,

You are right I do agree with you on these issues. My now is undergoing some smooth transitions.Pulling hamstring is because the my physical movement is trying to move to level III;however, as you say no hurry.Definately I need to lose 20-25 lbs and my mental strength,I will be flying. It is that physical body movement still holding me back.

I hate dragging the heavy body,I need to lose those 25 lbs to make my running and life easier for me.

Yeah! you hit the nail right on it!

If you were 170 lbs in 1978, how much of an affect do you think it would have had on your races and times? I bet that you are so talented you still would have won most of your college races, but I don't think you would have run any world records.

To Just Wondering

The 309 day of training phase II. 20mwp +75mhc + 27mcd =112 minutes I felt so great and too much sweating as it was raining on when in fact is my sweats. That is the sign of losing weight. What it is your comment on this?
