Just heard it on ESPN.
Supposedly Hossein Kaabi says he could run a sub 10 100m.
What do you think?

Of course that's BS.
I'd like to bet some ginormous amount of money that he couldn't do it. FAT and legal wind of course. Although he probably still wouldn't do it hand timed with a tornado behind him, there's a tiny chance he could be a 10.40 FAT guy and duck under 10 hand timed with enough wind. But a legal FAT - no way.
That reminds me of those guys in the NFL who thought they could beat Mike Tyson in the ring. Ed Jones was briefly a pro boxer with a 5-0 record and he said there wasn't any way anybody in football could beat the heavyweight champ. Confidence is great, but overestimating your abilities by that much is disrespectful of the world class athletes in other sports and it's ignorant.
sub 11.00 sec is alright, am sure there quite a few soccer players with that kind of speed especially the forwands
I heard it too! Maybe if it was run on a downhill track and his favorite Mullah measured it. Even then I'm not so sure. But at 5'6" it is easier to look like you are moving faster than you are.
Maybe we can have him race Justin Gatlin to settle the nuclear dispute between our countries.
Just like every NFL wide receiver has "World Class" speed.
They forgot to metion he was timed with a sun dial
I don't doubt it. You'd run fast if someone was threatening you with a beating too. Remember the stories of the Iraqi Soccer team in SI getting beaten with a bamboo cane on the bottom of their feet when they lost?
According to ESPN, he is 5'8"-5'9" and weights less than 145. I guess that is maybe in the range of Tim Montgomery (?), but it certainly doesn't sound like a world-class sprinter's body type to me.

Got to give you props on that one! Funny shit
Soccer players can always run fast, according to their soccer coach and soccer mom. I have been told how great sooo many soccer players are going to be in track only to have them flame out when they found out that you actually had to work to be good in track- not just take the word of your coach.
damn you, wejo. =) I heard this while watching as well and considered making a thread about it because I thought it was pretty humorous and ridiculous. But alas, i've been beat to the punch once again.
my buddy was a soccer player from trinidad ran a 10.88 in a college track meet and he was not in the track team

Dude, IRAN and IRAQ are two different countries.
Speaking of the IRAQI soccer team, their fate was worse than torture -- some were killed for losing.

The Iraqi version of letsrun.
I know hajji. He's a liar. ESPN are fools for airing something as dumb as that. They barely cover T&F but Hajji running a non official 10 sec 100 makes the news. Freakin' haj, a 11.8 sounds more like something up their ally.
I wouldn't trust anything the Iranians say. Nuclear enrichment for peaceful purposes my ass!
sounds like total bullshit to me. i would put $1000 down that he couldn't do it with ideal conditions on his best day.
Is it possible to be able to run olympic type times without track training. Maybe due could have run sub 10 if he focused on track not soccer, If he could run sub 10 without track training, just imagine.
I am more inclined to beleive a sub 4 mile from a soccer player than a sub 10 100.
Be inherently suspicious of anything that is unverified, but the alarm bells should ring loudest when the unseen is supposedly better than what we can see. This man already performs in public for a national team, so why wouldn't he also take a talent so rare that would get him into at least the semifinals and perhaps the finals of the World Championships or Olympics in the 100 meter run? The simple answer is that the plausibly true part of the story is that he is man who can run fast and the false part is that he is 9.99 or faster.
