Runner1286, I just came from 116 minutes,I was feeling great for the first 63 minutes. My hips and knees joints were in good lubrication movements. After that I felt as if I ran out of oil in the joints.I was coughing dry mucus in my mouth and chest congestion. After showers I feel great again and sleepy.I'm going to take a cat-nape, when I wake up, I will know what I'm going to do for the rest of the day.See you again on letsrun.com Henry |

Henry - We met briefly at a race in Shiprock and exchanged a couple e-mails. I didn't realize you were back in New Mexico. If you decide to come up to Farmington again, you'll have to let me know. I've always got jipate and hot tea ready. Thanks for keeping us all posted on your progress. - Kennedy |

Are you Bob Kennedy? |

No, not Bob Kennedy. Just a mediocre runner lucky enough to live and train in New Mexico, where we get to break bread with the greatest runners on the planet. |

Hey HRE, I knew Henry while I was a 20 year old employee of the Bill Rodgers Running Center, which had just moved from Cleveland Circle to 999 Beacon St., Brookline, and Bernie Allen dropped Henry off with us at the beginning of 1987. He stayed with us for the better part of the year, as I remember, living over on Forbes St. in JP. I remember visiting him there after he got mugged one night -- we ate ugali and watched Denver win the Super Bowl! Another time, after Henry kicked my gluts all over the Newton hills for 10 miles, I invited him over my parents house for dinner. Pretty amazing how much my Irish mom and Kenyan friend had in common! I can remember driving Henry up to the Darmouth Relays ... I believe Hodgie-San raced him that day @ 5K. Some magazine reporter paid for the gas the whole way, and turned around and wrote some terribly inaccurate things about Henry. As if he wasn't dealing with enough on his own! Henry was battling some demons back in those days, but he was did not surrender, and I wish nothing but the best for him! People certainly tried to take advantage of Henry well before he arrived for his short stay in Boston, but I am honored to have worked alongside him, at least for a little while. JE |

Odie, I dropped Henry an e-mail and asked about Bernie, who seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. That confirmed for me that it's really Henry, not that I doubted it. Bernie actually put Henry up in my apartment in Newburyport for a while when I was away. |

To Odie Bernie drop me off in Utica Febraury 12,1987 on my birth-day in one the alcoholism rehabilitation center. From then on I can't imagine where is about.A taxi driver and training like a mad-man occassionally. During training I couldn't keep up with him.He used to wonder how I became a world class runner with my snail pace of training. The last time I met him was in 1993 in Georgia,Atlanta town.If see him say hallo for me is a nice guy. Steve Lurie must be paying Henry some decent bucks to show at his camp. Pick him up, bring him to the airport, sit with him on the plane...Reverse. |

Isn't there a Bernie Allen that lives in Rhode Island??[/quote] It's not the most uncommon name. Could be. Henry, I always used to laugh when Bernie would complain about having to train with you because "He runs so bloody slow!" The last I'd heard from him, which I think was in early 2,000, he wasn't running much. He'd had some groin or back problems for years. |

To former landlord, "Steve Lurie must be paying Henry some decent bucks to show at his camp.Pick him up,bring him to the airport sit with him on the plane... Reverse."This is a qoute Steve Lurie do what he wants to do with his camp and his clients. I just wanted to clear the air with the people, who don't want to see me breath air with my fellow runners and enjoy my running legacy.I'm alive that is the most import in life right!I have people tend to compare me with other legands.I'm my own man now days and I do want I want to do you don't lecture me.About money and who pays me what? Former Landlord, I'm still kicking, this morning I ran the same way and turned around climbe the copper hill twice, the toral minutes on the ten day is 127 minutes.I was motivated,I felt like someone is trying to pull me back, but it turns out in was motivational. On letsrun.com people don't want to comment things directly to the person they want,so they hide like little kids.Someone was making comments about my clinics with Steve Lurie in August 13-15.I qoute him in what he was trying to suggest,I have alot of crazy people, who would like me to be in the cage, when someone needs me,he would charge him all kinds of money.Or sit in the cage until earth and heaven comes. Is anyone wants to comment on that? About this person, who is interested about my money with Steve Lurie with his training camp. Those who are jealous of training camp managers, please set up yours and pay me all you want because you know my scale pay.Otherwise stop being distructive and frustrating my life.He says Frank Shorter and Bill Rogers don't get out of their doors until they see on their hands $5,000 or$7,000.I broke two world records with $5.00 lunch money in each of them.Seattle,Washington and Berkely California in 1978.What are you talking about.I'm very happy to meet my fellow runners and it is my passion to do that, please don't put me in the cage until you see heaven and earth meet. Henry, good for you, being your own person and sticking up for yourself. You know what is best for you and making your own choices, no one else has the right to infer or say anything. I appreciate your dedication, passions, fine example and helping others and young runners. I will keep watching this thread for your comments and inspiration and progress. All to the best to you and if you make millions on the way that is fine with me too, then maybe landlord can rent from you. Run well and fly like the wind. |

Henry....don't waste your time and energy responding to the sad people that write hurtful or negative things on this site. We ignore these guys. They are sad, little people that are mad at the world. Just let their postings die; don't respond.....ps...as a former runner, about the same age as you....please, take your comeback, slow and carefully....injuries and recovery take longer at our ages than they did at 25 or 30....slow, steady progress is what you want. I've seen many guys past the age of 40, try to make comebacks of various kinds, just to get frustrated and quit, because they pushed too hard, too soon and broke down physically. You can get your weight back down under 170 and run effectively, but give yourself time and have patience, my friend. |

To 70's old-timer, I'm glad someone is watching possitive stuff that we do in sports.Ha! I needed that cheering on.I think my normal weight at this age is about 170-172lbs. I know once I get there the world turns right!I used 142-148lbs 28 years ago. But these years of age I will used 170-172lbs.It makes alot of sense. That is what my doctor told me last. You hit the nail on the head. Henry |

Henry, A lot of good runners have come to this site, put up some interesting and useful posts only to get hammered by a few morons who just get a kick out of criticizing someone who was a better athlete than they were. It's a sad thing becaue it often drives the good guys away. A lot of us are really interested in your comeback and are glad you're posting here. Don't let the idiots bother you. |

FL, you small, small mind. Perhaps the clinic would be better suited spending their money on you, and all of the experiences you've overcome, so that you can pass on your unyielding sense of human spirit? Go jump in another race without paying an entry fee. |
