In the summer of 78 (way before the internet) I picked up a newspaper every single day (I had hardly any money), hoping to read more about, and not miss anything about Henry Rono, the man who set the track world on fire. As a budding track fan, this news was shocking to me. He will never be forgotten in the history of our sport. |

Henry...such good words and so well needed in the common bond we all share as runners in the twilight of our athletic careers. Hello to Kimeli from John and I, we hope to be half as good as he is once we have learned our skills.Did you know Coach Mike returned to Albuquerque recently? Please tell him a big happy hello from me if you should see him again, he is such a good man and always got the best out of his athletes including me! Today I pedeled the bike for 33 miles with John and then I headed out to run, I have a long way to go, when I read about what you are doing it spurs me on....There are many of us cheering on our runs now saying Go Henry, so when you run remember to say Go Skuj, Go Malmo, Go Sarah, Go John, we can all gain strength from one another..........Our lives in running will indeed come true. |

Thanks Henry, I've been running for 48 years and thats the way I've always done it, run as I feel. I've tried to follow the schedule of others in the past but it keeps coming back to the fact that we are all different and we must adjust ourselves not to a schedule which seems to have worked for others but to the opportunities which we personally have to improve. For me, the simpler the better. I cant get involved in obscure formulas. Adhereing to a strict schedule kills the joy of running and then it becomes more like a business than the freest sport know to man. There is a lot to be said for keeping things simple. |

(Patti wrote)>>> can tell you a little bit about myself. I'm older and am also fighting my way back to the masters competitive level. After so many, many years away, it has taken me quite awhile to reach a level where I feel comfortably say I can now train. Funny, how the mind works. Memories, can carry us for a bit. Reality though is sometimes difficult to accept. Keep up the fighting spirit.<<< Very good Patti ...where I can say I can now train...Reality though is sometimes difficult to accept.... Just about sums up my situation. If you are the Patti I suspect you may be, all the very best in your comeback. |

Henry stayed at my parents house for about 2 months after the Boilermaker in 1986. He trained a lot with Ed Bruni and Andy Petrillo. He got into awesome shape. I kept a log of what he was doing, one week was over 180 miles and another week he did speed on the track 5 days in a row. Every workout was 1 minute recovery whether it was mile repeats or 400's. He ran high 49's at Boilermaker for 15K, then ran 32:00 for 10K at Lake Morraine, then ran 31:00 for 10K at the Asbury Park 10k in August, then went sub 29:00 for a downhill 10K in Baltimore in early September then flew over to Belgium to run a 10K in Europe. To Brian Thank you, Brian I lost my log,I think left my log book with lawyer in New Jersey. This is a runner and the log training book is here.I won the case.Thank you brian it is very nice of you to come in and I appreciate that have nice day. How is your job with the doctor.I ahve knee injuries that has been going for 13 years.but I can still put in 15 mile but when go beyond 21 miles that is the time it starts itching.By the way I ran 140 minutes today with the hills you tell them. Now I will go a head with SKUJ question. Henry |

I passed age 50 Henry and am very impressed that your training is going so well and am a bit envious in that I have back trouble now and then. Maybe I should just slow down and run really long as you do? Good luck. |
