Yeah, letsrun is the best. I Love You Henry!!! I was 16 in the summer of 78 - Henry blew my mind! I don't think a day ever passes when I don't think about Henry's achievements. When he bettered his 5000m time in, oh god, what was it - 81? - I was floored. "He topped himself." Absolutely phenominal. This man can do anything he puts his mind to. He is a demigod. I cannot wait for the book. Thank you Henry for being a letsrunner! |

I first saw Henry run at the NCAA District 8 cross country meet at Stanford, 12 Nov. 77. From a yellowed envelope of fading snapshots, my results read: Cheruiyot (WSU) 29:35 Rono (WSU) 29:35 Salazar (Ore) 29:47 Wysocki (Nev) 30:15 McChesney (Ore) 30:19 Clary (Ore) 30:26 Chapa (Ore) 30:31 Hunsacker (SDSU) 30:33 Stolp (UW) 30:42 Centrowitz (Ore) 30:46 Oregon had quite an all-star team: imagine Matt Centrowitz as 5th man. The following spring I watched Henry run his 5K WR at Berkeley--an absoluting exhilarating sight. In the summer I recall phoning a friend after learning of Henry's 10K to say that Henry had finally lowered the school record at WSU (Samson Kimobwa's standing WR of 27:30). Henry Rono inspired me then, and to know that he's still running inspires me now. |

I will show you. If Henry Rono is real, then ask him questions that only the real Henry Rono could possibly answer. Ask him questions that are not published anywhere, in any newspaper or magazine, that no fan or track insider could possibly look up or guess the answer. To prove this point, I'm going to ask Henry the names of two of his former roommates when Henry lived in Eugene circa 1984. HENRY PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS UNTIL TOMORROW. 1) This roommate, called himself "Kip from Kenya" What is his real name? 2) This roommate, was a chemistry student at the U of O. What is his name? The first person who can give both of me their names I'll give $100. Both of their names, not one, both. You have all day today, Friday June 9, to come up with the answers. I'm pretty sure that not even Henry's book collaborators could answer these questions. CLUE: To spice things up, I've hidden their names in the form of anagrams somewhere in this thread. I'm 99 percent sure that no one except the real Henry Rono can answer these questions. Prove me wrong -- just in case I have a back-up question. $100. You have until midnight tonight to give me the answer, after that, then Henry will give you the answer. |

Sam, you're good. I certainly did misunderestimate the guile and resourcefulness of this crowd. You didn't spell John's name correctly, but the judges will give you credit anyway. Check your email if you want your check. The anagram clues were "As be Jimmy" and "Joan oh lusty" Now for the back up question. Rono and I have a mutual friend who could pass as a clone for Lauren Hutton. Who is she? |

Odie, it's called a facetious response. It's humor. Slap your leg. Fall off your chair backwards. Blow milk out of your nostrils. Of course I knew you were not a little kid. I was parroting typical Letsrun adolescents who wouldn't accept the fact that Henry Rono (and others) would post here, even after testimony by you, Van, mandingo, Sarah, drew and myself - and a few others on other threads. Like...ya know, umm, like you, uhmmm, you know.... get it yet? |

Odie, Like, it's cuz ur an old fart and ya know, got like seenile. I'll add to the testimonies. I e-mailed Henry and asked about a mutual friend that no 19 year old LR poster would know and he knew who I meant. |

I am guilty -- it's true HRE!!! My son is starting to sleep though the night, so his daddy will hopefully regain his once treasured sanity with some more thorough sleeping habits! Malmo, that's an interesting running route in the way both loops join together! Thanks for the map! |

Henry, your race with Bill Scott in Melbourne Australia about 26 years ago was a great inspiration for me. Bill ran 27.46 to finish 2d behind you, I think you ran about 27.30. |

Odie, Mine are 14 and 9 now. They sleep normally and I do too. As you can see from my assessment of your predicament, I am alert and mentally sharp and you too will be again. Did you get to know Henry in his JP days? |
