Hello, Mr. Rono. I was just looking at your PRs and comparing your 1500m, mile, 2000m, and 3000m. You could run 59s for 1500m, just-under 60s for a mile, and keep going at 60-point for up to 7.5 laps. How did you do it? Is there anything you would have done differently- maybe to increase your speed over 1500m? Or were you training more for the longer distances and the steeple?
I used to hear a legend about your 8:05 steeple WR- the legend was that you didn't touch a barrier or get wet. How true is that? (Part of the legend came from Patrick Sang- and when he told the story, he had a look of pure awe on his face- like a far-away stare and then a little shake, like he was trying to imagine it and then he had to shudder, and then he would look at me and try to smile, and then he would mutter about shin splints and stress fractures and kind of walk away. Like he needed some time alone to reconcile it in his mind before he could deal with an idiot like me- But then, and then- when he came back, he was just plain ferocious.)
If you really could hurdle the water barrier, you must have had incredible jumping ability- did that translate into very much 200m speed? How fast could you run 200m? Would you recommend jumping excercises for young runners?
thanks
Max
