Nehemiah would not have gone into the NFL if there had not been an Olympic boycott in 1980, when he was about the surest gold medal favorite besides Edwin Moses. My recollection of his NFL career was that yes, he could catch the football and he did, but the Niners usually used him only late in the game when the outcome was decided. I mean... they had some pretty good receivers on that team.

You are correct. Nehemiah was not the greatest receiver. He had speed and I guess the thinking was for every three passes he dropped he would catch one and run away from defense.

Look at Oakland and how Al Davis has been obsessed with speed over skills. Doesn't mean jack in the NFL. Also, money is good in the NFL but outside of the signing bonus it is not guaranteed and why take the money for perhaps a short career resulting in a crippling injury.

To answer the original question: No, Gatlin did not play football at UT, nor did he, to my knowledge, play in HS. Leonard Scott played at UT and attempted to play in the NFL, but his speed is vertical only and he has no hands.

Why would Gatlin ruin his body playing football. Besides, football is useless outside North America.

Hey do you guys remember "Bullet" Bob Hayes, gold medalist I believe in the 1964 Olympics in the 110 yd dash (yards back then, not meters), who went on to have quite a successful and HOF- like career with the Dallas Cowboys? Proof that track stars can succeed....

If Gatlin decides to sign with the Eagles one day, it will only make him look bad. He'll go from being "The Fastest Man on Earth" to some guy riding the bench for a floundering NFL team. He may not even make more money as an Eagle. Sure the average NFL player makes far more than your average track athlete. But does a sub-par NFL player make more than one of the most recognized and dominant track athletes on the planet? If so, probably not enough so that it would justify giving up a stellar track career. Gatlin has a chance at become the GOAT.

Why would Gatlin want to play football besides the money. He gets endorment deals that is more than the everage nfl player. Also He will have a real sport record know world wide, not just a childs game record like football if he played a game only popular in the USA. Play areal sport lose the pads. Play Rugby.

Isn't gatlin some kind of super athlete though? I'm pretty sure he is more than just super fast like the others, i think he would do really well.
