They both ran with a lot of guts....great performances!
Proving that Americans can indeed run with anyone in the world.

Also proving that lincoln is ready for some "more" prs...337.5 in crummy conditions which was a huge pr...and now a 813? Whats next? AR in the steeple? i say he runs 810 in his first race...734 in the 3k, and if he get's in a fast 5k 1310ish give or take. I bet he's very glad he did not quit like he had planned a few years ago. we'd be missing out on one of America's potentially greatest runners if he had. If not for Goucher beating him Lincoln would be getting 10 times as much hype after this race. Any other year other then this or last in the 2mile and this would be amazingly huge.
great race for both, but i was even more impressed with teg...8:16 is a breakout for him!
Yeah, agreed. Because Lincoln and Goucher ran so well it's easy to overlook, but 8:16 is a really strong run. Tegenkamp is going to do some good things this year.
3 American's ran 8:16 or under in the same race...that means that 3 American's were within 5seconds of the AR. That's impressive. Even more so is the way they (Goucher and Lincoln) went for it and closed the gap on those Kenyans! They all ran gutsy, great races and proved their primed for some great times later in the season. Congrat's to all three of them; they ran a race to be proud of!
I know there's been speculation and predictions about the steeple AR going down for YEARS now, but if Lincoln's even got the vaguest amount of technique left at this point, this has got to the summer he does it.
bumb
i don't think i've ever seen goucher, or anyone else for that matter, look so ugly coming down the straight. those guys really wanted it.
congrats to goucher, teg and lincoln. i didn't like lincoln all that much before this race, but this changed my mind. thank all three for a great race. much more exciting when webb actually broke the record, if the conditions were better, i bet all three would have broken it, great race!!
Dare I say that Goucher's stride and form have almost become Coe-esque??
Not even close! Goucher has a long, powerful stride, but I still think Coe was much smoother and more graceful.
great race for both of them
G$ is the man!
Yeah, and Goucher would have broken Coe into little pieces if they were to have ever raced over 3k or 5k.
I'm a big fan of Goucher's, but it sure looked like he was losing contct and that Lincoln was responsible for keeping them and Tegenkamp close. All three ran super, but if Lincoln had stayed behind Goucher for another lap or so - and the gap on the leaders had grown - I wonder if they would have run 8:20 instead of what they did.
Good point, but the Africans help each other all of the time and that is what the Americans need to do; it was almost like a team race and was beautiful to watch!!!!!!!!
Well that just shows it was a team effort. How do you think the Kenyans and Ethiopians do it?
I got a question. Why did Goucher do a victory lap when he finished 3rd? He didn't break any records and sat behind Lincoln most of the race and didn't do any work, Lincoln ran way more agressive than Goucher did. If anyone was due a lap it was him, not Goucher.
