You should contact that RW lawyer who got all threatening with you a couple of years ago and have him go after them.

Just ask them to change it...It worked out for letsrun and there was no lawsuit. It shouldn't be any different.

seems theyve been doing this for as long as i can remember.

go to the marathionguide.com site and click on any of the news stories on the right side of the page. all those links are copies of other newspapers' stories, but on the marathonguide.com domain.

i just checked the html page source.

those pages from say the NY Times, letsrun, Runners World arent actually copied by marathonguiide.com.

the main page, say

, contains two frames--one for the marathoncom.guide banner, and the other frame, where the original article from say the NY Times appears. So they are not really copying thearticle but are just linking to it, and opening it up in their own frames page.

Is that illegal? Any attorneys out there?

Framing is in legal limbo. But blatantly copying as excited by wejo above is illegal.

If a site was framing my site I would just go point out to the advertisers of the framing site. Most of them don't want to be associated with unethical practices.

Probably something to do with search engine rankings but who knows. (I think this could cause us to get banned in search engines as well). Clearly, we don't know much about anything.

If they are doing this without permission it could lead to serious trouble. Linking to other sites is perfectly acceptable. Using the content from other sites is also acceptable IF you have permission to do so or cite the original source properly. Usually, news articles need to have permission granted in order to be reproduced on other sites, but this changes for every site. You have to check the T&C’s of the site which has content you want to use on your site.

The best tactic is to write your own article using other articles as supporting data. Just like in doing a research paper in high school or college, you have to have your own unique ideas and properly cite anyone else's ideas that you use.

Redirecting from one URL to another is just a shady Search Engine Optimization tactic. An honestly, it is an archaic one that is only used by sites that haven't kept up on the newest developments. The major search engines do not favor redirects.

John Elliott owns both MarathonGuide.com and Live2Run.com. That explains why he redirects one URL to the other.

He is still violating trademark policy by taking the content from one site and using it on his without permission.

yeah, but the news articles to which he links, which are freely available, arent actually "on" the site. the content has not been copied or reproduced in any way, and theyre not pretending they produced the content. if they cut n pasted a bunch of articles and saved the content to theyre website that'd be one thing, but theyre not.

search engines will see it as copy content because by using AI (artificial intelligence) they can tell which article/text was posted first, so sucks to be the cheeter...

Precip man is right. The news pages are not being copied. All the content resides on the orginating server. They are not claiming they own the information or content. MarathonGuide has a news aggrigator that pops up running related stories.

Please be cool to MarathonGuide. I've frequented their web site for years. They provide an invaluable resource.

Framing is probably illegal but sites from what I can read can install framebreaking code so that is an easier solution than a lawsuit. But live2run.com (Which is marathonguide.com) stealing info is 100% illegal.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't responded either. Perhaps I shouldn't be considering how unprofessional their conduct is to begin with.

there are frame killer code fragments out there for javascript. which will kill the framer using your page dynamically. worse are the junior high school newspaper level rats at trackandfieldnews, trackshark, iaaf.org, runningnetwork, etc. who pifler stories and re-write them. well, at least they put in the re-crafting effort and time, unlike frame the marathon-guide theives ;-((

"framing" refers to the 'html frames' which are done in the browser on the client pc/mac/etc. re-purposing content (from nyt, letsrun) can also be done in the web server, using php, java, sql, etc. when done in the server, the code does not show in the browser, i.e. you cannot inspect the code using VIEW->SOURCE (in i.e.). this may be how live2run.com is copying your content. they may be doing it dynamically in the server each time the page is loaded (clicked on the browser), or they may have pre-loaded the content onto thier server. you might try to find his out by changing your content, and the seeing if it changes on the live2run.com page.

That f***in site's run by dinks, for dinks, so if they lie, cheat and steal it comes as no suprise. They only print favorable reviews by shitpoke 5:15 marathoners, not honest and scathing -- but fair -- assessments of the many crappysuck races out there that are in need of major improvements (e.g., Tucson).

It seems your knowledge of how these sites work are not very brigh because I'm the webmaster of Trackshark.com and this is clearly not the case.

Care to show me any examples of what you mean if you have seen them on our site? I'd love to see what you are referring to instead of just throwing our name out there.

Back to wejo's point, this is illegal if the content is copyright -- which I'm sure it is.
