He means of African descent. Obviously. |

Obviously is right - and I know I can't do a thing about it but I think your username is ugly at best, "Great White Hope", it sounds like a sign the ku klux klan would fly at a meet where craig mottram is running at. To wonder about genetic differences in races is one thing but to say - Great White Hope - just lame

ritz 27:30 webb 27:50 -28:00 (still doing base work) or ritz 27:20 webb pacing ritz 4435 out |

I guarantee Ritz, Webb, and Mottram aren't thinking of what's good for a "non-African" (it's OK, you can say white here.) 27:30 is what it is -- thirty to forty seconds away from being a medal contender and over a minute from the world record. |

all of you said that ritz would crush webb in the two mile at prefontaine last year, look what happened, if ritz has a bad day, which we all know he is capable of, webb could run away with the race, but, I have to go with ritz, simply because he knows the distance better. The same way that I would go with webb in a mile race |

Umm..."minutes" off his personal best would be at least 25:38. Even I think that's a bit quick for him. Don't say things we haven't said. |

Here we go again. I know he means of African descent, and I'm poking fun at it, because I do think there are some physiological and genetic differences between races, particularly when it comes to distance runners or sprinters... And yes, I would like to see someone of non-African descent make his mark on the International scene, particularly from this country -- rather than the US having to import its talent like Meb and Abdi. And no, it is NOT a racist remark. We are all truly of African descent, no? |

i didn't know that usatf imported meb from eritrea i thought that his father walked across eastern africa, got to italy and sent money to get his family and then saved more and transported the entire family (something like 9 brothers and sisters) to the US in search of a better, more peaceful life -- what do they call that dream.... gosh, i forget but, wow, usatf IMPORTS runners, like Qatar and Barhain? i thought we just take the best available, eligible to run for the USA and then whoever finishes 1, 2 or 3 goes. but importing runners, i had no idea... |

No shit Sherlock. Meb's story is amazing and uplifting, no doubt. But you get the gist of what I'm saying (of course we didn't directly IMPORT him). I don't get terribly inspired by yet another Kenyan or Ethiopian running a sub-27 minute 10k. It is a dime a dozen for the Africans. It would be more inspiring to our next generation of up-and-coming runners to see someone in the underdog role, like a Ritz or Goucher, step up and prove he's capable of competing on the International scene, rather than gettng excited about a 27:30 10k or a couple of guys running a 2:11 marathon on a downhill course. |

It'll go down in the 27:40s like Mt. Sac always does. Hard to see it in the 27:20s. Just like a couple years ago when everyone said Broe was going to go sub-8:10 in the year's first steeple. |

That's too bad -- how about Cruz's 1:41.77? Or Cram's 3:46 mile? Equally as uninspiring?
is it now? I count 20 africans whho have broken 27 minutes (not counting drug cheat mourhit). is that 'dime-a-dozen'? |

Why are Abdi, Webb, and Blake Russell (all Nike people) listed under Flynn sports? Is that their management company/agent? Seems kinda weird when Ritz is listed under Nike and Cragg as Adidas, whereas others are listed differently. Any insights out there? |
