We heard today and are trying to look into this more that Mike Woods will not be allowed to run the NCAA mile because they are not allowing his 3:57.87 to count as a qualifier because reportedly the Reebok Boston Games is not a legitimate meet for NCAA purposes.
Lets ignore how this rule to begin with is something you'd expect in high school athletics not collegiate athletics. But under what ground can Mike's mark not count? The Reebok Boston Games is now a 2 day meet with a full collegiate meet on Friday and the elite division on Saturday with professional and collegiate runners. Just like the Arkansas Tyson meet has 2 days now, so that the qualifiers from the "professional" meet count.
So I'd like to know how the NCAA could interpret this rule to exclude Mike. And also I'd like to know if some coach had to file a protest to exclude Mike.
