So over a month ago, I started peeing blood after my runs. I went to the doctor, had a bunch of bloodwork done, got a urine test, and had an ultrasound. The tests were inconclusive, as all the results showed was an abnormal amount of blood in my urine.
So I kept running, and kept peeing blood. It would clear up after a few hours and then be normal again until the next run. Well, I had an appointment with a specialist last Friday and he basically said that, in addition to the blood, he suspects a large quantity of myoglobin.
He said that he needed another urine sample during an 'episode' so to say, but that he was thinking that I might have something called myoglobinuria. I did a lot of research on the web, and I found a good amount of information about what the problem is...but I couldn't find any treatment. The doctor talked about a serious reduction in mileage and a possible end to any competitive running. His thoughts were further compounded when my 2nd round of urine (taken during a 10 day running layoff) came up with 15 mg/L of myoglobin.
This morning, I went for an easy 10 miles or so and peed into a cup immediately after finishing. It was blood red and I took the sample down to the hospital. I have to wait until Monday for full results, but it doesn't seem very optimistic.
I was just wondering if anyone on Letsrun has had any experience with myoglobinuria...do you know of any treatments, etc?
Thanks,
Mike
