I just saw the video link of the 1968 Olympic Trials for the 1500m, that has to be the strangest track I ever saw with the trees in the middle of the track. Who came up with that idea? Kind of cool in a way, not sure how they did the field events...

The one in the nike headquarters... it's in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by trees...
Freakin' Beaverton is in the middle of nowhere, also surrounded by trees!
The track at my high school was trapezoidal (w/ rounded corners). Also, it was 422 meters around.
University of Rochester's 207m indoor track which is almost a square has these insignificant banks and half of the track is in a tunnel which sports a warmup increase of 20 degrees over the rest of the track. The people who run best on the track are the ones that know how to slide out into lane 2 before the bank, it takes practice.
What 1500 link?
Please post.
Thank you.
Remember the East Tennessee indoor facility with the 385 meter track? Not that strange I guess, but awesome.

Built to mimic Mexico City alt. we saw Lee Evans go-44.04
Larry James 2nd in 44.16 and Ron Freeeman follow in 44.62
thats 38 year ago .... I'm not sure what Otis Hill ran that day but I'm pretty sure it was sub 45 for 4th. Vince Matthews had a hand 44.4 there also. I'll find a link to a great thread on odd tracks in a little bit....
The track in Frisco, CO has trees in the middle. A great view of mountains on either end and an elevation @ 9100ft.
a couple come to mind:
Lynchburg College indoor track is basically a circle w/o straights. They run the sprints on a diagonal from one corner of the fieldhouse to another and out a door.
Back in the early-80s Halifax HS in southern Virgina had a track that was asphalt - when we arrived there for a dual meet my freshman year their driver's ed class was driving around the track.
I was thinking the same thing!
Seattle Pacific has a track with a right turn in it. Also has four turns on it. That's pretty strange.

At 73St along the Hudson River in NYC during the v1960's I trained and ran some duel/tri meets on a D-shaped 220yd cinder track that had both an uphill turn and a down hill turn. The wind whipped in off the river and with a tail wind you could better you 100 PR by .2 0r .3 seconds.
See the track with it's trees here-July II

old Tufts indoor track. bullet shaped. two 90 degree turns in a tunnel around the basketball court. 1 regular turn in a half-fieldhouse on the other side. triple jump approaches had to be run with a curve to get a full approach. crazy place. like the other tunnel, it was way hotter in the tunnel.
John Marshall High in Los Angeles. If memory servers it is a 357 yard square oval with a basketball court on the infield.

Wow, I have been up there a few times and seen that track, but never noticed the funky side of the track. Strange shit.
You can also Google Earth the Nike track. Just type in Beaverton, then look to the left of Commonwealth Lake and Johnson Spring. Right on the corner.
Sutherland highschool track was a triangle...no bs.
One high school we raced at a couple times didn't even have a real track, it was a paved trail in a circle basically we called it the go-kart track because that's what it looks like and some kids tried running in spikes (?). But where is this track at give me a landmark it's near so I can google earth it.
