In college, our coach said it was safe to take up to 12 aspirin in a day. When we were injured, we would typically take either 4 pills 3 times a day, or 3 pills 4 times a day.
I'm interested in feedback from anyone who agrees or disagrees that it is OK to be taking this quantity of aspirin in a day.
I also would like to know if taking this many aspirin is ok.

In a word, NO...
So long as you don't get internally injured you are fine.
If you do somehow get injured (internally) you will bleed quite a bit on this much aspirin, and suffer the consequences.
In case you didn't notice, Ariel Sharon's stroke was compounded by the fact that he was on blood thinners, hence all the bleeding into his brain.
Be careful. If you need a pain reliever this much you should either take a tylenol or ibuprofen type of drug or just back off the training a bit.
Lose the aspirin and take Aleve. There is nothing better for inflammation. I usually take 3 with a meal when I start getting banged up. The next day I'm fine.

Totally my opinion, but I don't take anything like aspirin or Aleve or Tylenol at all 'cause the side effects are jut not worth it. There are lots of natural COX-2 inhibitors out there like ginger and rosemary. I prefer New Chapter's Zyflamend. It's an herbal anti-inflammatory.

I surprised that you think that the people at letsrun.com read. Especially something with small print like an aspirin bottle.
Aspirin should be used PRIMARILY as a fever reducer, and then for headaches and aches and pains. It should NOT be used PRIMARILY as a pain reliever, especially for chronic pain, that is why there are the tylenols and ibuprofens and other non-aspirin OTC products.
I don't waste time with the OTC shit...I go right for the controversial stuff for inflamation...DMSO baby.
