banned on letsrun.com homepage???? 12/6/2005 5:20AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I'm currently logging on to this site from a school. For some reason i am unable to log onto the letsrun.com site from my home computer. Now i know you can be banned from posting messages on this board but can they also prevent certain IP addresses from entering the site. I've checked my settings and this isn't a site i have filtered or anything. It just comes up 'page cannot be displayed' .... anyone else having problems logging on from their home computer or is it just me? What else should i check for? I see no reason on why i would be banned. I rarely post on this site. Thanks.

Hate to admit, but I've been banned 3 times in the past few years only to be allowed back in after some time period. I could always get to the site and do anything, except post. That would be indicated by a direct "banned" message.

It's not you. Wejo's new webmaster has f***ed everything up. Many of the biggest internet service providers in the country cannot view this website for some reason.

It's not you or verizon. It's something wejo's webmaster did on November 21, the Monday before Thanksgiving.

Wejo, please figure it out.

The problem is not with my webmaster. You can do a traceroute and see that the "banning" stops way before anywhere near our webserver in Texas.

We are on certain ISPs banned list and are trying to get removed. I suggest you contact Verizon if you want to expedite the process.

Wejo, how does Letsrun get on an ISP's banned list? Does that make any sense to you? What could you have done?

Wejo, did you guys contact the major centers to have bans removed?

If folks are desperate, you can set up a proxy server. Try this:

use an actual proxy server in Taiwan with the technical specs "address 139.223.199.194" and "port 8080". Proceed as follows:

Go to SETTINGS.
Go to CONTROL PANEL.
Go to INTERNET OPTIONS.

Under CONNECTIONS and LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN), check "proxy server," and write the current address and port settings on a piece of paper. Stick the paper in your pocket, or somewhere you won't lose it.

Then, from your search, enter the new address (139.223.199.194, in our example) and port (8080). You should now be free to surf.

If you're using someone else's computer, remember to set the settings back when you're done, so they won't even know you've circumvented "security."

So I called Verizon Fios tech support and they claim not to ban sites, yet an hour later, we got nowhere. Tracert only went as far as my router and then the hops stopped. I'm using anonymouse right now but Verizon Network specialists are on the case.

Does it make any sense that many ISPs from different parts of the country all coincidentally put Letsrun on a banned list on the same day, November 21? I want to believe you but......help me with this, what's wrong with my logic?

Look, these filter vendors all use the same lists. Lists are updated daily and ftp'd to the servers at remote sites. It probably got on one lists, and then was disseminated out to all their clients. It's not like each business/school/university has some guy sitting around looking for porn or running sites and placing them on banned lists.

Most of these products use squid or some variant.
