This is no joke. Today I messed in my shorts twice. It's disgusting. I am extremely serious. Does eating cheese actually work? What about different medications? I am afraid I am going to get dehydrated.

how long is the race?
pepto bismol
half marathon
immodium
yogurt with live cultures and bacteria and peptobismal. yogurt usually seems to help me when an intestinal malfunction. If the bacteria in your gut are upset by something like a virus, adding new bacteria with yogurt seems to help me. carry around water with you wherever you go during the day and sip it frequently.
I would, (even though roughage is not recommended 24 hours before a race), eating a serious salad or two, drinking some fruit juice (a smoothie would be best), taking pepto bismol and any other anti-diuretic you can think of. It's tough--if you are running a marathon or 10k, you may have to consider postponing if the diarrhea is still not better in the morning.
bread and crackers
toliet paper, and lots of it.
Talk to Josh DoBell...
Immodium AD...trust me on this. It can plug the Hoover f***ing dam...you won't s*** for a week.
Last year I had a mean case of the shits for a while, and crap myself on a run. I was very worried for my up-coming half marathon, but 2 immodiums 1.5 hours before the race saved the day.....and I PB'ed.
Go to you local liquor store and get yourself some blackberry brandy. Take a shot before dinner, and one shot after dinner. It'll burn like hell going down but the stuff does the trick. I came back from Morocco one year with some serious intenstinal distress. Couldn't make it through 10 min of running. Ronnie told me to try the blackberry brandy and being desperate at that point I decided to give it a shot and was amazed at the results. Funny thing about it was that my wife happened to be reading an old running book (can't remember which one now) and their was a story in there about this runner having the same problem in Mexico city and his coach suggesting the same thing.

Eat an entire box of raisin bran right now. You'll be much better in the morning.

Hah! As I was reading your post, I was reminded of a book about George Young. At one of of his Olympics--I can't remember if it was Tokyo or Mexico City--he had the runs and his coach suggested blackberry brandy. I wonder if that was the book your wife was reading?
Try a cork.
