I believe you mean who's the loser.
who's the horse?
Will this seriously be an even remotely close race?
Could the man ride the horse? Vice versa?
Are you kidding me?
Any really decent distance runner should win this hands down!
The further you go the harder it is for the horse and a man already won at the marathon distance.

rumor has it that Catherine the Great could.
i would like to see a man vs horse cage match.
There's a race in britain xcountry man v horse 25 grand prize if man beats horse (that's £ not your mickey mouse dollars) Huw Lobb (2.14 marathoner) won it one year, the first to do so.
Seminal race reported here>
I remember past discussions on this topic. Consensus was that the horse has the advantage up to an 80-mile race and then humans on foot dominate thereafter.
I ran in the Ride & Tie championships this year and discovered that a few of the horses (but not all by any means) could outrun me over 32 hilly miles. A couple of the horses could completely kick my ass. I'm an upper 2:20's marathoner and run th the 5:30's for 50M. Those horses are tougher than you might think, even over long distances.
Also depends upon the terrain, does it not? There are places man could run that horse would have to walk. Years ago we had a couple of man vs. mountain bike things where I live, and on the rougher trails the runners were victorious.
If you try to go against a horse that is bred for and trained to compete over a long distance, you will lose. It doesn't matter if you're Jurek or not. The horses that compete in those races(man versus horse) are very rarely, if ever, the best out there. Over 100 years ago there was a racehorse that did a 22 mile time trial in an hour.
The real downfall of horses showing what they can really do today is the stops to be checked by a vet. If they are even slightly in distress or lame they have to pull out.
I don't think it is realistic to say the men are better if the course is too rough for a horse to negotiate safely although it might make the race more interesting.
they should let a pronghorn antelope into this competition. In the racing the antelope book by that german ultamarathoner/naturalist it says they can run 7 miles in 10 minutes!! I periodically post that on a message board because it is so mind boggling but noone is ever interested heh.
Amazing that the Pronghorn retains its fantastic speed despite not being pursued by Cheetahs for at least 10,000 years. Even more remarkable is that a pronghorn can't jump a fence, despite having about the most explosive muscles out there.

just a lack of good coaching.

Speedgoats can jump a fence, they just prefer to go under. "Pronghorn friendly" fences have the bottom strand at least 18" off the ground so they can scoot under.
