There is no "age" limit in D1.
What to be a 27yr FR?
-finish high school & train like a mad-man for 10yrs
-do not start any full-time college/university studies
-do not race (road, track, xc) come your 2nd yr out of high school
Boom, enroll into a D1 school with FULL eligibility.
Those on this board who think you lose a yr for every year after 21 OR that your clock starts at 21... don't have a NCAA D1 manual sitting on their desk
I'm a recruiting coordinator at a major D1 university. It is my understanding that the clock starts regardless of whether or not that athlete has raced competitively. It used to be the way you're describing it but they changed that a few years ago due to Kenyans and Europeans not starting until they were 23 +
Actually, the NCAA DI rule is after your 21st birthday if you have participated in any organized team or individual sport (I.e. rec league, 5k, work league) that is the moment your eligibility begins. (Military sports teams are exempt) so if at 22 I play on a work football team, I then have until the age of 26 to go to college and complete my DI athletics, a max of 4 seasons per sport minus however many "seasons" I played in an organized league. There is no official age limit if you never play an organized sport after your 21st birthday.
What if you went to college for more then 4 years but still dont have a bachelors degree
