Foot very sore again. DAMN! 20:00 on the recumbent bike last PM.
3 in the AM, 9 at night with some strides. Feelin smooth!
female- 8mi- easy- 53:35 -great weather 50 degrees and sunny-
gonzo, The sore foot. Bummer. Think hard. Causitive factors outside of running? Define any and all contributors. Enhance nutritional plane? Get to the root and work back up.
Light effort, light hearted 1.5 miles with CC team.
50min warmup.
2x10km in 28min with 5min rest. Felt flat.
30x400m 60sec with 45 sec recovery.
Few strides after, bit stiff.
45min run back home over the farm. Felt good near end.
Marathon tommorrow.
61mins in the Tooborac State Forest.
Tracks are in good nick as fuel reduction burns are happening soon.
Temp was 19 deg celsius at 5.30pm. Rolling to steep hills throughout.
Trail is soft and dusty in most places as dept of conservation vehicles have been up and down many of them lately. It hasn't rained since mid sept. either.
Good range of wildlife.
Spotted 3 large mobs of eastern grey kangaroos, 3 echidnas, 2 pair of adult swamp wallabies and also a young one.
A pair of emus, numerous crimson rosellas and also a pair of eastern rosellas, several flocks of sulphur crested cockatoos. A flock of Major Mitchell cockatoos. A number of sitellas and also a few tree creepers.
Also spotted a pair of wedge tail eagles circling above.
Ran at a good pace pushing a little up the hills probably ave a bit under 5mins per km with the flatter sections at 4.15-30 per km.
Felt good, legs were fresh as I hadn't done the usual morning ride due to early work start.
3 cheers to you mates down under.
AM Catski. 30 minutes .Drizzle and a calm 46F.
Weekend forecast calling for snow.
Traded the ASICS GT-2130's back and got some BROOKS Radius 7's, then did a CAUTIOUS 2 1/4 miles on flat roads. No problems. I also took the precaution of warming up on an exercise bike for ten minutes.
No run today. Rode the mountain bike from home out along the McIvor Creek trail, briefly up the highway then through the scrub and up to the top of MtIda, then hurled it back down the same way. 69mins, pretty pleasing time as 75mins is around my average for this course.
Plenty of wildlife along the way as is usual. Had to brake at one point for an echidna crossing the track. Quite a few wallabies and roos on Ida. Disturbed a pack of feral goats near the summit. 2 herons along the creek. Got swooped by a magpie (it's swooping time of the year).
Hot day today, about 30 deg celsius.
The grand-daughters are visiting and staying o/night so I didn't bother going out for a run this arvo.
yesterday:
2Km walk home to gym. 2.5Km from gym to park, quick. Exercises. 2.5 Km quicker back to gym to pick up kids. 2Km walk back home.
Today: kids athletics, 1hour. 12x100m fast striders.
Some locals have organzied a fun Hellenic Pentathlon tommorow for kids and adults with fun things like running 197.26 meter, standing long-jump with weights in hands and other ancient trials. Substituted last event - the to-the-death wrestling bout - with some large object throwing, don't know what yet.
A likely update will follow.
12 miles on the crete.
13 miles with 4 miles uptempo in the middle. Foot is bugging me, but I don't know if its bad enough I should take some time off...
hmp, describe bug if you will... your talent is a shame to stop..
im the 2nd fastest in the state and the state meet is 9 days away and is 11 days away and i havent ran in 3 days..F*** IT!!
Today: "Hellenic Pentathlon" fun event organized in a public park by a bunch of old guys with a passion for Track and Field for kids and adults.
Took the family, with our bikes, beautiful sunny day.
Managed to run 197.26meters barefoot on grass, slightly uphill, in 27s without too much straining which i was def pleased with.
Also threw javelin, discus, and did a standing long-jump with weights in our hands in the ancient greek tradition. Avoided the full contact, to-the-death wrestling which was customary at the time...yikes!
Long bike commute to work and later back home.
Did a careful 25:00 run on some trails. The foot and calf serviceable. No pulls nor stabbing pains.
...maybe the off-road running concept has some validity? I've been strictly a macadam guy for 25 years.
Old dog-new trick time/that and switching to training by minutes/hours?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Gorgeous day, foliage in full rage, 55-60-ish degrees and a dry-post-rainstorm tang in the air. Makes one happy to be alive.
gonzo,
you got my vote.
Trails vs. macadam; Since Chicago the trails get the vote of these knees.
Friday PM. 1.5 miles en route to mile splits at CC meet.
Sat. Rest
Sunday; Heading for the pool.
tpcb; That Hellenic event sounds like a great club function. Leave it to the unencumbured ancients to stage a good time,(sans the wrestling).
I believe the standing broad jump, sans weights, WAS an olympic event in the early modern era.
