2012 Patriot League XC

insider info bro....the leaves werent caused by academic issues. and its different then normal athletes taking leaves of absence because the team culture (led by the coach) is encouraging athletes to follow a certain, very unhealthy path and saying that said path must be/should be followed to attain success...if youve seen the pattern at colgate over the past 6 years you wouldnt be dismissing this

Alright I hate to get this thread back on track right when the juicy gossip is getting good, but here are the opening weekends for the PL.

Army at Army

Lafayette, Lehigh at Lehigh

Navy, Holy Cross, Bucknell, Colgate at Colgate

American still doesn't have their schedule up.

(FWIW Boston U doesn't open until next weekend at Bryant)

It looks like Colgate is the place to be this weekend. Satterwhite vs Johnson could be an interesting preview for the league individual title. Satterwhite has the talent to be really fast (he ran 9:12 in the 3200 as a highschool junior). With a good summer base and good training perhaps he could challenge Johnson this year.

DeRoo's two XC titles were some of the most dominant races i've ever seen. i had heard rumors of her having an eating disorder which seems to be what you are implying. its really a shame she never really had a dominant track season.

Isn't it possible (probable?) that she was a great XC runner who couldn't really shine on the track. Certainly we can all count many athletes from high school and college who had similar careers. Oh and don't forget that she was a 4.0 student or just about. We're not talking an SEC athlete on full ride. Why do we think it was an eating disorder and why do we think Nardelli had something to do with it?

Will the other PL teams be heading to the course at all this year? I can't imagine some teams are going to want to show up on such a hilly and twisty course without having run it before.

I'd also be somewhat surprised if Johnson races. And if he does I'd be surprised if he was pushing it/trying to win the race. It's a long season, no reason to kill it in early September

He had some exceptional circumstances. The dude just couldn't stay healthy no matter what he did. He was a hell of a competitor.

Or you could do what Johnson has done in the past and kill it in early September, kill it hard in late October, and kill it harder in all of November.

I'd be willing to bet all of the Navy guys are running hard. Cantello is a dinosaur from a different era.

Who is considered the best cross country runner in Patriot League history? And what would Jonson have to do to reach that level? Has any male won more than 2 individual titles?

I'm assuming no one has won an NCAA title. Who has finished top 10? Or top 25?

Without looking anything up and making a stupid uneducated guess I would say Dan Browne. Was Army in the Patriot League when he competed?

That's almost certainly the correct answer. From what I can tell he finished 2nd and 4th and NCAAs his senior year in 1997. Army joined the PL in 1990.

Ray Appenheimer (currently the Oberlin head coach) is also a decent submission. 1st American and 7th overall at NCAA XCs and I think 2nd or 3rd in the indoor 3k.

Ray Appenheimer is the correct answer. Army didn;t run in the Patriot League until 1993. Dan wasn't even the best XC runner at Army during those early Patriot League days - Jason Stuart was.

1991 Bucknell - 13th at NCAAs

1993 Army - 6th at NCAAs

1996 Army - 15th at NCAAs

2004 American - 20th at NCAAs

2005 American - 30th at NCAAs

2006 American - 24th at NCAAs

So, probably 1993 Army.
