Wow how can BYU's team be legit?

You can argue all you want about the BYU issue, that's great, take shots at the school...you are all entitled to that.

But the negative comments towards the Mormon religion are completely uncalled for. Can you imagine if I started taking shots at black people and jews. I'd be reprimanded pretty quick wouldn't I. Well when you tear down the Mormon religion, it's the same thing. Honestly, what has the Mormon faith done to any of you that allows you to hold passionate enough grudges that you feel inclined to start resorting to immature negative comments.

Keep in mind that our first prophet and his brother were murdered in a most brutal manner, that the governor of illinios issued an extermination order making it legal to kill any mormon, and that we were thus pushed all the way to Utah, a trek that killed numerous people along the way from starvation, disease, and exposure. Those were my ancestors, they were deeply persecuted, and despite the struggles, they helped build a foundation for a religion that now has 13 million adherents.

So in summary, please don't make those comments, I won't stand for them.

You're not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? You do realize that 21 is an age, right? Not the most difficult concept for most people, but then again, you obviously are NOT "most people."

If you lose a year of eligibility for every year that you compete past 21-years-old, that is essentially the same functionality as a competitive age limit.

In Division I only, if a student-athlete has participated as an individual or as a team representative in organized sports competition, that kind of participation during each 12-month period after his/her 21st birthday and prior to initial full-time collegiate enrollment will count as one year of varsity competition in that sport. Any participation in organized competition during time spent in the U.S. armed services will be excepted.

Stop crying and trying to blame other people for the fact that your team just is not good enough to go to Nationals. I believe BYU isn't the only team going, so how do you explain the other schools that make it? They don't cry about it - they use it to motivate them to be better as individuals and as a team. Get over yourself; 18-22 year olds are more than capable of running outstanding times.

Right, but that doesn't account for the fact that 18-22 year olds are running faster than BYU.

well, actually he met the burden by pointing out your continuing error(s)....but since interpretation is obviously not your strong suit.....if some kid decides NOT to compete, but rather train, AND takes NOT MORE than 11 units, he could go to school for 6yrs before starting his clock, thus "beginning" school as a 25yr old freshman, with 5yrs on his clock....albeit one serious grad student since he'd likely have almost 200 semester credits...but the point is, YOU are wrong, there IS NOT AGE LIMIT, saying "it's like an age limit" is idiotic, so please admit the fallacy of your infantile brain and then cease posting. thank you.

I can't see why this is so hard for you to understand. Without a doubt, the typical 24 year-old who took two years off from training (meaning they've trained for four of the previous six years) would have a huge advantage over the typical 18 year-old freshman. Likewise, however, the typical 22 year-old senior who did not take two years off (so has trained for four years straight, having red-shirted for one) would also have a huge advantage over the typical 18 year-old freshman. But there are no complaints about that, are there?

The real issue is does a 24 year-old who has taken two years off have an advantage over a 22 year-old who has been training consistently since he entered college? Unless they are a "late-bloomer," most men don't undergo massive physical development between the ages of 22 and 24. And I don't see how you can say that what development does occur is significant enough to offset the fact that the 24 year-old's training was interrupted for two years. Given this, you also cannot say that whatever advantage a 24 year-old Mormon has over an 18 year-old freshman is any more than the advantage that the typical college senior has over the typical college freshman. When this issue is viewed properly, you cannot say that a Mormon missionary has a significant advantage over where he would have been had he not gone on a mission.

why are we comparing seniors and freshman anyway. A 22 yr old Sr has an advantage over an 18 yr old frosh, just like a 24 yr old has an advantage over an 18 yr old. So maybe we should just ban everyone if they aren't 18, is that what you're saying?

The only possible reason a 24 year old who took two years off would have an advantage over a 22 year old who didn't take two years off would be a nagging injury would truly have time to heal. That is it. People don't "bloom" that late. This is coming from someone who was 20 seconds faster in the 800 as a junior in college than he was as a junior in high school.

One of the above posters is also correct; there is no age limit in the NCAA. You simply lose a season of eligibility if you compete in any way before entering college after the age of 21. The exception missionary's receive is for the 5 years to compete 4 seasons rule. There are quite a few exceptions to this rule, by the way.

Finally, in case you think I have any bias on this, I really don't want the Mormon religion to spread, and so I really don't like the fact that they go on missions, but stopping them from doing it would be nothing short of immoral and tyrannical. I really couldn't care less that I have to compete against people a couple years older than me.

I still don't understand all this talk about "advantages" in terms of age. If it was such an unfair advantage, it would be banned. But it isn't. It's allowed. That's the end of the discussion!

I grew up Mormon and was not as strictly Mormon as some of my peers and they would treat me differently once and a while, yes, but I promise you were not persecuted as the early Mormons were. Can't compare. And way to generalize, by the way...

Anyone ever seen the South Park Mormonism episode? That is precisely why mormons are wierd and get critisized. Their religoun is a crock and based off of some idiot who just made up shit. It reminds me a lot of scientology. Also its unfair to have those 25 year old mormon runners.
