Meyers was pretty quick to diagnose and say I was a good candidate for surgery. I guess the MRI is getting pretty good at showing the actual damage rather than just excluding other possible diagnoses.

Four days out. Still fairly swollen, though I think I'm feeling slightly better each day. Definitely still on the pain meds. After my daily walk I get a challenging burning sensation in my pelvis. Kinda gross, but I managed to take a shit for the first time today since the surgery (it was becoming a bit of a concern.) Progress!

Hello, I wanted to ask all of the fellow sufferers one question. I just had the open procedure done on may 8th. Everything was going really well until I started physical therapy and there was one specific exercise that would aggrevate the incision area:rollouts ( where you have lie on your back on a table with both feet flat on the table and bring the knee down to the table) I think this stretched the area. It is causing me great discomfort. My testicles feel out of place and twisting. Is this normal? I had the same feeling pre-op. Also, how long after surgery should a moderate amount of time pass to become sexually active?

Can anyone here tell me if they think I might have this problem? I'm seeing a specialist tomorrow, but not sure if it is the right type of specialist. I've read much of this thread, but not the entire tome.

At first, the problem felt like extreme stiffness at the beginning of each run, mostly in my left leg. For the first mile or two, while loosening up, my stride was slower, I bounced up and down more, and my arms did most of the work in propelling me forward. Things got better after a few miles warmup, but if I would stop even for 60 seconds, I'd start over again with the stiffness.

I then noticed pain in the hip adductor area on my left leg, but only when running. I could walk just fine, but if I tried to run, I could feel the tightness and discomfort in trying to move that area. I also would experience pain in the left side of my groin (more on the leg and pelvis than in the groin) when sneezing. Putting on pants or underwear was painful when I went to balance on my left leg.

The pain is not real severe, but I simply cannot run normal until I have loosened up for one or two miles. When I did an interval workout last week, I would tighten up after just 60 seconds of rest in between. Then, for the next 200 yards of each interval, I would be running with the weird gait.

I'm thinking of just resting for a couple of weeks and riding the bike instead. Thoughts?

postop day 25.....I had surgery a year ago and i would tell you to wait at least 5 months to get back into sexual activity...if the physical therapy is going well i would say maybe 3 months...no less than that...also if you havae pain doing that exercise i would recommend you stop doing it and im sure the pain will go away...the recovery process is always up and down...who did your surgery??

I visited my sports medicine physician and nothing much. He just referred me to another surgeon who is supposed to be knowing these stuff. The sports medicine physician said it might be sports hernia or some internal muscle sprain/tear. He said that a laproscopic surgical diagnosis can reveal it.

I am not sure if the doc I am visiting by the referal is a specialist in these.

Please can anyone suggest some specialist in this area of sports hernia and related in Texas. I live in College Station, a place near to Houston and Austin. Or what kind of specialist should I see.

I have been suffering from sh for a year now, things were manageable and I had switched to biking rather than running started doing yoga (VERY bad idea), now my hip hurts, my hamstring hurts and my knee also hurts, to the point where walking more than a few minutes becomes aggravating;

I am planning to go and do my surgery with Dr Muschawek, but I read that paper by Dr Meyers where he explains there is an underlying cause to a sh and from what I read I think Dr Muschawek doesn't address that issue, in Meyer's paper he mentions that 27% of people have other hip anomalies like hip clicking and a possible labral tear, I do have a clicking hip and I have had it for a long while, my fear is that if i have this surgery and the underlying structural anomaly is not address it will just come back;

Hi John. What was the bad idea -- yoga, biking, or both? I was hoping to bike and see if that helps any. I'm not stretching that area right now. See my post a few posts above. I'm going to an orthopedist in about an hour to check it out.

When this thread first started, I thought I suffered from this condition, but this discussion has been going on for so long that in the interim, I've gotten better! I hope others of you are as fortunate.

I've been through most of the ups and downs of this injury without surgery. I've biking outside recently, but I started on a stationary bike before doing so. I also did a lot of core strengthening and stretching. If you are still hurting, I don't know that I would try much biking other than stationary biking followed by core exercising.

I cannot jog or run. I haven't tried to start yoga again, but I don't have the really terrible pain that I experienced a month ago which kept me from even trying it.

doc thinks I just have an inflamed hip adductor. I've skipped running since Sunday and feel a bit better already. I start treatment tomorrow, which will include stretching and strengthening, and iontophoresis.

i get lots of pain in my groin, right side, if i run a few days in a row. it built up over about a month. the pain comes on the strongest when i take the weight of the leg and bring it forward to step. walking is can be more painful than running.

also, there is a hard bumpy lump in the area, right where the pain is. feels like a swollen tendon, and the internist says it's not the lymph node, so sends me to a sports medicine guy. he's all about the hip for like 5-10 minutes, and nothing shows up in his exam. i remind him abou the lump, and he feels it and decides it's the lymph node. i tell him the reason the internist sent me there is because it's not a lymph node. he takes another feel, acts confused, and schedules me for an mri to look at the hip joint.

anybody have the same symptoms? which one of my doctors is wrong?

Does anyone know of a sports hernia specialist in Florida. I live in Miami. I have had a bilateral groin pain for about two months now. Coughing and sneezing are also painful. Very frustrated.

8 days out now. How's everyone in the recent Meyers group doing?

I'm still a bit swollen and it's still fairly painful. I thought I screwed it up bad walking home from the metro, but I think it's alright. I'm just constantly afraid I'm going to screw up Dr. Meyers's work. Going to get the incision checked out tomorrow morning by my GP; wasn't able to sneak out of work to do it today.

the bad idea was definitely the yoga, I was doing biking and taking long walks and i was perfectly fine, as most other members say stationary bike and elliptical is fine, but Yoga is a big NO, i wish i could undo that last yoga session :(

anyhow hope that helps, i had been working "around" my sh for a year now and things had been fine until the yoga session; now i can barely walk to school

ok so i am 2 weeks out from meyers surgery and im only walking to the end of my driveway...yesterday i tried walking a little more and today im in a ton of pain..should i be doing more walking?? i guess im a little nervous because even now im getting really sharp pain and im not even walking that much...should i take some percs and suck it up??...lastly...could something as normal as shaving my legs cause me to retear something...how easy is it to retear the surgery??

I am 5 weeks out Meyers surgery and have flared it up big time with pain twice but Dr. Meyers said I could not have retorn anything. Just remember he has a 3 week protocol where he has some athletes returning to play. If the stitches were that fragile he would not have developed that protocol for these athletes!

Marcia told me today that they have never had anybody retear it, and that you will have soreness that resembles pre-surgery.

I am in the same boat is you and find it hard to believe I have not screwed it up, but we have to have faith in Dr. Meyers that he is the best and has done a good solid repair.

sportshernia- I had Dr. Meyer's surgery over 7 months ago and I think you should definitely try walking more. Part of the pain is going to be the scar tissue formation around the site; it is important to "use" your muscles in that area as you normally would so that the scar tissue will break and realign itself along the movement path of the muscle, even if that means just doing normal day to day movements. When I was getting back into more intense activity (I'm a gymnast) and felt pain, Meyers constantly encouraged me to push through it- he seemed very anxious to make sure the scar tissue was getting enough breaking up.

Also, the surgery attachment site is pretty secure; I had a cat jump on me at day 3 PO and was lifting heavy (cafeteria) trays by the beginning of week 2 and still recovered fine. I was paranoid about these things too at the time but don't worry about day to day activities messing things up. Obviously you won't want to be lifting furniture at this point, but after 2 weeks day to day activities shouldn't worry you. I hope that gives you some reassurance-

Janet & Kent- Thanks for the reassurance on the tears. I called Marcia to do my 1-week check in (my doc said the incision looked healthy) and was actually going to ask, but forgot.

By the way, Trish or Marcia had mentioned something about not lifting more than 10 lbs. the first 3 weeks. I think I've violated it by a little, but not too much.

Janet's right; I posted about this in way earlier threads; shit is stitched back together (of course doesn't speak to what he can't get to).

no sex for 3 months... you got's to be joking; after that procedure I was right ready to make sure equipment still worked pretty asap (2 weeks)...

As my prior threads say - beware the dumb moment (I remember 'em all); but you are not undoing that work without major trauma (think "car accident"). Relax; gut it out; could be a long road for you; don't "f" things up with impatience (jon)...

know well Meyers calling card: "use it, don't lose it" and pray to god your repair works out. even them, use your head - stay cool - work around it. you've had the best deal with your sticky situation; now figure out your part of the deal...

your injury has everything to teach you (i hate that saying; turns out it was true...)
