So, where's the picture?

It would have been better to simply post the Solinsky picture, if the decision was the picture needed to be posted, with no "X" and a caption;

"Chris Solinski, the first American male under 27 minutes for 10k, is joined by Galen Rupp's who runs an 26:48 AR."

Having a second picture of Rupp with the clock at 26:48 would have been best. That way both American males under 27 minutes for 10k would have been honored; the first and the new AR holder.

completely agree here, this site has become completely classless over the past five years. Journalism at its worst. Bias is written all over each article. The sight might as well be a tabloid trying to exploit Americas distance runners. Wish we could just get the news.

Running is not the NFL dumb@$$. Let running be running, quit trying to make it into something else!

Based on the two responses, this tells me Wejo is the (relatively) reasonable one and Rojo is the one who trolls on here and stirs up trouble.

However every time there is a controversy Wejo says, "Wow, I've been so busy, I did not even see this until days later."

This means many, many hits have come his way, the Brojos have pocketed their money, the advertisers are pleased with the traffic numbers, and he manages to get off an apology to clear his name.

Classic good cop, bad cop scenario those Brojos. And yes, this site has been classless and tasteless, almost since its inception.

Soon, very soon, the elites are going to BOYCOTT talking to anyone from Letsrun. How do you like DEM apples?

Boring and it would look like RW, TFN, FT, etc. Athletes can now tweet out there PR releases - they don't need a website to do it for them but the other sites are too worried about advertising to analyze/criticize.

The last post on here said something to the effect of "Runners don't need to be like the NFL, they need excitement and support." He or she then said they dont get that here and that if he or she was an elite, they would not grant LetsRun.com interviews.

But let me reply to it.

1) You want an apology from me? Ok, you got it. I honestly meant zero disrespect to Solinsky and am sorry so many fans took it as disrespectful.

I think the whole uproar resulted from one of the things that sucks about this sport - the fact of the matter is there can only be one winner of a race or one holder of an American record. That's it.

That fact creates problems as I often think in the sport of running, what is a 'winning' or 'good' or 'losing' and 'bad' performance is hard for many people to determine - both fans and athletes alike.

Rupp could run 26:10 at the Olympics and his performance would be viewed as a disappointment by many if he didn't get a medal. To me, I'd be jumping for joy. It's like last year when he ran 27:10. It was a big PB but since he lost the race and Solinsky got the AR, it was viewed by many including probably Rupp as a disappointment.

In this case with Rupp's 26:48, I was just trying mainly to show that Rupp had broken the old American record. By definition, that means Solinsky doesn't have it. Again for every winner, there is a 'loser' but to me there is no losing really going on as Solinsky wasn't even in the race.

Solinsky was on top last year, Rupp was devastated, and now it's reversed. I didn't think anyone would read really any more than that. Clearly they did and for that I'm sorry.

2) As for boycotting us for interviews, that is fine and their right. I totally disagree with the assessment that they don't get publicity here. LetsRun.com is really THE ONLY place in the world where people care if someone runs 12:55 over say 13:02. Where else is a bronze medal by Centro treated like an NBA championship?

Now it's true that the athletes don't always get blind support.

With publicity and hype also comes scrutiny. When we started the site, we promised ourselves that we'd always speak honestly. I happened to be re-reading the Marathon and Beyond article on the founding of letsrun yesterday:

and I was struck by Weldon's comment:

“There are too many people in the sport who would never criticize the establishment.”

We promised ourselves we'd never be afraid to speak tout. In running, given the individuality of the sport, far too many people take criticism as being more than it really is. It's not a critique of the person - just their performance.

When Tony Romo fumbled and threw an interception against the Jets, he gets ripped -justifiably so. When he is a hero the next week, he gets praised.

As a Cowboys fan, I wasn't too upset with the Jets game as I think he's an amazing quarterback and am happy to have him on our team but did think the mistakes were pretty much inexcusable. I know a lot of fans aren't this nuanced in their criticism but that's how I viewed it.

Romo understands that criticism and praise are part of the job. Runners, who are totally dependent on sponsorship revenue, should as well.

If I say, "Solinsky had a disappointing 2011." That shouldn't be taken as an insult. He tried his best but just was injured. As a fan of American distance running, I'm happy he's on our team. Hopefully 2011 was his Jets game and the London Olympics will be his San Fran game.

I think most athletes get that. Some don't. In that light, I thought the "Teg doesn't do the 10k" video was incredible:

Some good things here.

However the main problem you face, aside from your capricious moderators who need to be replaced or even banned in some instances, is failing to distinguish between honest, sometimes harsh assessments of a athlete's performance and allowing the personal insulting an elite athlete or any athlete. Your site should not conflate its commitment to integrity in the sport, as a green light to foster such a horrible cesspool of disrespect to athletes on these message boards.

And I guarantee you will be singing a different tune if all elites band together and boycott your interviewers. You are like a teenager with lots of potential but you guys had better grow up a little bit.

PS-For the record I have noticed the articulate and well-educated posters are put off by all of the backstabbing on here, while the poorly educated posters incapable of forming complete sentences are clamoring for more bashing. It says a lot about the ideological divisions.

What I love about running is that other's don't have to fail for you to do well.

Unlike football where the objective of the game is defeat the others, to make them fail, in running to some extent at least, we can all be successful.

Why would elites boycott LRC? That would be akin to biting the hand that feeds them. Sites like LRC fans the flames of fandom which elites need to stay elite. Of course fans are a pain in the ass (as witnessed by this thread) but that's the price of admission.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Rojo's cover. It has caused me some consternation though; why are running fans such whiny little bitches?

Rojo did a good job reiterating that he is only commenting on performance not their being and, God forbid, trying to have a little fun with it. This thread is an embarrassment, what with all gnashing of teeth and hand wringing over a picture.

I hope the indignation has more to do with sticking It to the Brojos than

truly self righteous indignation because, after being censored on more than five occasions, I would like nothing better than to stick it to them.

I do agree that the moderators should be drawn and quartered though.

Is it really burdensome to highlight accomplishment without backhanding anyone else? Again, why not simply choose any recent photo of Rupp finishing a race and throw text of his AR across it? Or do you also have an agenda to run contrary to the classy route?
