They did change it to only 7 this year, everyone else runs the open race. And how is it super out there to say Malone's #1 wouldn't be on GVs top 7? There are 7 GV kids with better times than him...
GVSU has ran on some fast pancake courses. Louisville is a grass track and Calvin is as fast as they get. Their 24:40s would have been 25:15-25:20 on a course like All-Ohio. I've been to Calvin and it's flat flat flat. Same with Louisville... hell two Kenyans, Lalang and Sambu went 22:33 and 22:36 for an 8k... it's obviously FAST. I personally believe GVSU will win the team race but I guarantee that they won't have seven in before Malone's #1. I think there's only a 20 point difference between them and No. 2, whoever it will be.
Except that several current GV runners have broken 25:00 or ran under 25:15-25:20 on other courses in years past on courses that don't regularly produce super fast times. The true tale is told when you compare how GV's runners finish as compared to how runners from regional and conference foes finish in the same race on the same day this year. If you think for one second that GV's pack is a group of 25:15-25:20 runners and that is what they would have run at the All-Ohio meet then you are wrong sir. Unless I'm to believe that runners who don't beat GV in XC and don't beat GV in track can run near 25:00 on "slower courses" but somehow GV's runners can't... I may not agree with the person who claimed Trusty wouldn't be in GV's top 7 (because he is a real ind. Champion contender) but you are severely underrating and understating the ability of GV's top 7. I mean, GV has a runner (Stephen Fuelling) who finished 25th at xc nationals last year that was quite close to Emmorey and Witt last year. They have a runner, Showerman, who did quite well at GLIACs, regionals and took 50th at xc nats last year who is struggling to be top 5 for GV this year.
The beauty with xc is that every team will have to line up and race. And the record over the last decade shows which teams do that at GLIACs and at regionals. After the MSU meet last year, not one GV runner ran sub 25 the rest of the season. But tell me how they did at GLIACs, regionals and nationals...
Yes, all-Ohio was a hard course.... Said no one ever. That course may not be Louisville but it isn't that tough. We will see Saturday's results and they will be a wake up call.
Fyi Louisville course was not as fast as it has been in previous years due to the rain. Course was quite soggy and around 15 seconds slower. Yes I know Lawi and Sambu still ran blazing fast but anyone will tell you it was 15 sec slower this year.

I remember that Conan guy! The resemblence is scary. I think he might have some eligibility left. And I def agree that Malone is no match for GV but I admire their relentless smack talking. I look forward to seeing the results!

GV men place 6 in top 11. Malone's #2 finished after GV #3 but then GV puts 3 runners at 9-11 before Malone gets #3 runner in. Pretty fast times, fast course?
Fast times all around. GV dropped 15 seconds off their Louisville times. As the previous poster said maybe Louisville was slower this year compared to the past.
Well, welcome the the GLIAC, Malone. Get ready to watch GV take first every year just like everyone else.
Super fast times! Course must have been flying,all races run at incredibly fast times for a league meet.Grand Valley smashed Ashland and Malone by a huge margin. Malone's men are going to have to adjust to running with the big boys of D2, as they ate some serious dust today.
As for Malone's girls, a serious beatdown for them.

I'm gonna guess it is because all the Malone kids that said they were gonna win the GLIAC and then got beat by 50 points are very humbled. Crazy PR's though.
Crazy Pr's because some school didn't know how to measure 6000/8000 meters. It's cross country so it's all about who you beat but this course ran faster than some of the fastest courses in the nation ex. Louisville.
GV has major depth and Malone can't possible bring in the talent that GV has been bringing in.

We got very curious after taking a second look at all the fast times run at league.A few of us took another trip back to the course for a "re-measurement" of the course . Our measurements showed that the course(8000 meters) was 235.4 meters too short. (We measured twice)
Our measurements don't change the team scores. The measurements may give us some idea why the times were so quick. Sorry to those who take offense to our measurements.
