Heh, I see the online collecting agency takes 4% of the total raised. Whew, that's a little bit of a relief to me.
I have a friend who is a big-time fundraiser for large non-profits and big companies, and he tells me depending on the issue and the company he takes anywhere from 20% to 80% of the total raised, sometimes more than 80% if you can believe it.
I read in the news this morning that two of the boys have apologized, and the father of a third feels embarrassed, angry, and sad as he hopes he can contact the monitor to see what work his boy can do for her. So, the boys might learn a little something, but the story only catches our attention because it's blown up big, national news now and big, big donation numbers.
This is a tiny example of the logic and illogic of collective action. Kinda cool. No one individually could have had such an effect on her, the kids, the parents, the school, and the public pysche, but lots of individuals acting individually certainly have.
