Republicans don't have much ability to negotiate terms. They already agreed to have all the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year. And they will. That's the law. It's not Obama turning the screws. To get new upper income bracket tax cuts enacted, Republicans will have to give something up. Not the other way round.

However, Mitch McConnell did ask for an up or down vote in the Senate yesterday and Reid blocked it….. so unpredictable. Even the Chicago Trib isn't convinced the President has the mandate he thinks he has:
