The guy he's talking to edited Running Times for years, and co-authored two books on marathon training with with Pete Pfitzinger. He ran a respectable 68:40 half marathon himself (no word on whether it was downhill). According to Hobie, Douglas's knowledge about training is much more limited than his own, even though Hobie hasn't PR'd for five years, ran all of his PRs on downhill courses, and DNF'd at the Olympic Trials marathon.
But he's the expert because he can (supposedly) run a 4:40 mile with a 40-pound vest on. That's arrogance.
