Bump.
Anyone know what's going on? Is he still in the hospital?
He is now out of the ICU and in to rehab. Here is the last update from his family:
"Well things are continuing to improve for Ryan. He is basically walking on his own right now. We still have to be aware of his balance at times but he can totally walk by himself. He actually looks like Ryan with that familiar gait he has so that is neat to see. He is actually doing some strength training now along with balance and coordination exercises. Getting better cognitively as well, but this is going to be a lot of work, as is to be expected. But positive hope for a good recovery as well in that regard. Personality is also always coming out more. Makes jokes at times and his doctor made a good point - it is good to see him be able to do that because it is a pretty high level skill to formulate a joke or remark in your mind and then say at the right moment in the right way that it is funny. She said that is really great to see him be able to do that so early in his recovery. Is eating but definitely tired of pureed hospital food. Hopefully will move to solid food here soon. Wants a pizza when he gets the OK to eat anything. One somewhat negative outcome - they went in to remove his filter he had put in the second week to stop blood clots getting to his lungs, heart, and brain. But it was lodged in his vein and they could not get it out. It is not that big a deal - until 5 years ago they always left them in. So it is OK to have it in,but it would be nice to not worry about a foreign object in there that could have been removed. Only half way into therapy and everyone working with him in rehab is really excited about how far he has come and about his progress. So with still 4 weeks to go hopefully he will be even further along when he comes home in October. Thanks for continuing to follow his recovery and all the positive remarks on the guestbook page. He can now read these and if you have not seen he is actually posting on Facebook. Those are his postings, not me or Chelsey writing for him, so you can see what he says there as well. I will now be posting every Sunday night from here on out until he gets home in October. Thanks for eveything the H's and the O's."
Fantastic news. Continued prayers for a complete recovery!
Great to hear!
Agreed. I don't know the young man but am glad that he is making what looks to be like great strides.
Hopefully his mistake(s) and recovery can help change the lives of those around him.
Life is short.
Hello
I wish Ryan the best in his recovery. I was wondering if you would be able to tell me if Ryan lost his sense of smell and taste from the head injury?
Thank you
