More than saying he was in good position, I think he may have kicked a bit too hard too early and not saved as much in the tank as he should have for the last 100. And I think overconfidence unfortunately is to blame. His 5k PR earlier this year plus those three A standards might have braced him to close hard a little to early.

Alas, poor Andrew’s is a runner who doesn't know which race to run. Webb 5k was embarrassing to watch. Webb is actually regressing back to his junior year of high school. It is amazing how little self awareness Webb has right now. Why would he run the 5k if he wasn't even going to run sub 14!!. Who is coaching these guys Moe from the three stooges.

2. for missing a good camera angle of the dramatic third place finish in the women's 800, the most exciting 3rd place finish of the entire trials. We barely see Conley start to make her move on the final stretch. Then we see a close up of Lucas. Then a close up of the 3rd place finish. They couldn't even show a decent camera angle on replay.

You make an excellent point. Track did not dwindle as a sport under Eugene's watch.

However, how it did not stay under Eugene's watch is a story worth telling...

Wrapped in the soap opera that was the Dellinger-Bowerman fued, the town-gown-nike fallings out. Basically truly stupid small town back room hissy fits.

I was dissapointed that NBC and Nike had to pander up to L.A. for the trials. L.A. names were obviously chosen for to boost TV ratings. You could tell. They kept mentioning L.A. celebrities Paris, Khardashians, Rafer, Ato, John Smith, and L.A. athletes like Allyson, Tarmoh, Ryan Bailey, Becky Holiday, Clay, Keisha Baker, Mary Decker, Gason Richardson, etc. They even hired a great L.A. band, Eve 6, to headline.

I don't blame them though since NBC loses money on the T&F trials and only agreed to do it as part of the Olympics TV contract.

Sad that T&F is oversold in Eugene. UO football, baseball, b-ball, and volleyball have taken over as the darlings in Eugene. High school boys & dirty old guys with video cameras are packing Knight Center to watch the long legged volleyball beach blondes. The tracktown faire area was empty during the trials. Maybe winning medals will revive track but for now T&F is passe in Eugene.

You know it. CBS loses money on NCAA XC and T&F but has to show it as a condition of the NCAA B-Ball brackets and Final Four contract.

Ashton Eaton only getting 9000 points...oh and Rupp out kicking Lagat so predictable. I think for real it was Bruce Jenner's face, it scared the hell out of me.

NBC had way too much Hollywood flavor again. It's so old already. They just has to have side bars of Hollywood's Bruce Jenner, Rafer Johnson, Khardashians, Joanna Hayes, Michelle Perry, swimmer Dara Tores, Janet Evans, etc. I.E. every one an L.A. celebrity! Why does do they have to make the Oly Trials of Track & Field, Gymnastics, and Swimming look like it's about L.A. I'm sick of it.

His friends were telling him no better than 4th, so I don't think he was over-confident.

The "Twin Studies" have been debunked. Which means you are right. It turns out that parents treat each twin differently. The "oldest," is treated like a true first born, given more time / resources, considered the older brother etc., even tho there may be just minutes difference.
