If you confront someone, get in a fight, then shoot the other guy when you realize you're losing, that isn't self-defense.

I haven't made my mind up on anything. I don't think anyone disputes that an altercation occurred and that Zimmerman was injured during it. So what does this image add?

What matters is what led to the fight, and pictures of a bloodied Zimmerman contribute nothing to figuring that out.

The reason this is a national story is that Zimmerman stalking, provoking and killing Martin may very well be legal according to Florida and Federal Law. When you combine the "stand your ground law" with the 2nd amendment and this "neighborhood watch" where you can drive around in an unmarked car, this is what you get. Zimmerman himself shouldn't be the story. The law is the News Story here.

So confronting someone is grounds to break their nose, jump on them and punch them in the face?

Zimmerman was completely unprepared for what happened next. Once he was getting his head slammed on the concrete he was well within his rights to defend himself. End result: dead kid, neighborhood watch guy with a ruined life. This altercation was unprovoked and should have been left to the real cops.

Zimmerman appears to be not-guilty based on the law. But what a stupid law.
