Exactly which made your comments even more strange. I know you were generalizing and taking more then just the last trials into account. I just wanted to point out that they weren't all that way (spring and hot).

Not to redirect this conversation back to the point of this thread, but does anyone know when this decision will be made?

That is a poor answer to the question being asked. You obviously have no clue. Don't feel ashamed about that but others that post on here do know when it will be. That is why we ask when? Try thinking out of the box a little there sport.

It was a done deal 2 years ago. New York will be hosting the Mens Trials. Do a search on this site and you will read about how many people were up in arms about it. The entire committee and bid process was simply a formality. I 100% guarantee that New York will host the trial and that they will have them in November.

1. That means that we will not know who our Olympians are until the last minute because a November date will allow guys to then focus on a track season (not train for a marathon).

2. That also shortens the qualifying window by almost 6 months. Traditionally the last qualifying date will be 60 days out from the trials. That means that no qualifying for the trials will be able to be done during the fall of 2007. You have about a year from NOW. That also limits the number of potential athletes that will have the Olympic A standard. In 2004 65% of all athletes world wide received their Olympic A standard during the fall of 2003.

3. It also means that we will not have a US marathon team in the World Championships in 2007.

Simple solution to all of those problems.

HAVE NEW YORK RUN THE TRIALS IN MARCH.

This will not happen because New York wants to flex their muscles and USATF is afraid of them.

The IAAF will be accepting the tope 20 places (males & females) from New York, Chicago, Boston, London, and Berlin Marathons as the equivalent time qualifier for the 2007 World Championships. It is very possible that this practice will be accepted for the 2008 Olympics.

Thanks for the insightful post. I have read through most of those threads and figured that New York seemed to be the frontrunner, but then again you never know who is talking out their ass on here. The annoucement will come eventually, just thought someone actually knew when the official one was coming out.

It would be great if the race was in March. I really don't care where it is at, just as long as it is after the new year.

It's a VERY good answer. USATF has a 'news' area and that's where the Trials info will come from. Check regularly. I can't help it if you're one of these 'I've gotta have the info yesterday' sorts. Patience...it's a virtue.

It will never happen in an OG. That was a concession made to bolster the WC. No need to bolster the OG and the IAAF is done with kissing our ass. Certainly you should know that David.

You may be correct. I originally suggested this concept to former IAAF General Secretary Istvan Gyulai (may he rest in peace) and Pierre Weiss (new General Secretary - former General Director) at a meeting during the Athens Olympics. They were very open to the idea of using this for both the WC and Olympics. In addition, the Boston Marathon has a "downhill course" that would elminate it for achieving the qualifying time. My rationale was that the big 5 marathons are the most competitive marathons in the world and anyone placing in the top 10 (not getting the qualifying time) could probably get it in another race. We should do everything possible to promote competition and focus less on time trials. Too often we lose sight that this sport is about athletes competing against athletes.

Istvan liked the idea and said that it needed to be studied by the appropriate committees and the Council. The IAAF went beyond my suggestion and expanded the placing from 10-20.

Maybe I'm a dreamer but hopefully they will adopt this for the Olympics.

You just don't get it. You did not answer the question being asked. You tried to give a means of answering the question without actually answering the question yourself.

To restate the question: When will the announcement be made?

The question was not: Where can I find the announcement when is it released.

Does that really make me a "I've gotta have the info yesterday" sorts. It seems to me that would be someone who wants to know the information. I just want to know when the information will be released. It is a tough concept to grasp, but if you try hard you could probably understand. Reading Comprehension...it's not overrated.
