So you're logic that Penn St has better athletes for the race next week involves Master's performance that happened at the Drake relays in 2011? (It was a 14:13 btw not a 14:10) and Tyler's 2:19:39 from Chicago?
...And you're criticizing me for using bad data?
You might want to look up what the words subjective and opinion mean. Either that or get familiar with how the speed ratings are calculated.
I know they're not 100% full proof but the logic behind them is strong and they are by far the best indicators of performance. (considering they're based on performances that happened a week ago) Slightly better than a 5k that took place a yeah and a half ago or a 26.2 mile race that happened a month ago anyway.
P.P.S. Idk why you bring up the guys 14:13 anyway. If you think 14:13 is the type of performance that will get you into the NCAA XC meet as an individual think again.
P.P.P.S. 2:19:39 is good but it's not that good...maybe worth a 14:15 5k.
YEAH I'm from Penn State! We're so much better than anyone in the Patriot League. Just don't look at last years NCAA National results where our best guy got destroyed by two guys from the Patriot League in the 5k and our 10k guy just missed the final round running 31:14 and coming in 32nd! Sure we didn't qualify anyone in the steeple but that Patriot League kid Kosgei just got lucky getting in and running that 8:49 anyway!
Munching box is sick

Looks like it was worth a 35th place finish at the big 10 meet. Impressive. Shocking that a coach would let one of her runners race a marathon in the middle of an NCAA season. Especially one expected to compete for a team with a chance of going to nationals. For what it's worth this is also jones's third stop after leaving lasalle and William and Mary.

Only Rustamon will appreciate this...
I'll give Monz credit as he didn't seem hung up regarding his runners working with outside coaching during the summer.
Which appears to have garnered enough respect for him that they really didn't work with same coaches during the season mucking up their in season performances.
Right now Brackett's "the star" of unmentioned club program post college on the girls side....despite their wanting to take credit for Abby D'Agostino.
Rustamon not sure what C3EPO talking about. Rustamon does like C3EPO name - one of the best LR handles out there. No doubt Ms. Brackett will appreciate mention in same sentence with Ms. D'Agostino regardless of the context.

jones raced unattached before chicago. if i had to take a guess i would say he had no plans of running for the team just training for the marathon while in grad school. once the penn state boys threw up that stinker in wisco, they suddenly became interested in doing what they could to get jones eligible since he redshirted cross a few years back. i smell some possible impropriety on the part of the penn state compliance office. someone should get the brojos on this.

Admittedly it wouldn't help much. My Nitnay Lions have no shot of competing with Villanova Georgetown or Princeton even on our best day. If we were in the Patriot League we could probably come in top 3 though.
Breaking News out of NYC:
Chris Johnson finished 16th overall and 5th American, running 2:14:20 in the Double Super Secret Pro Marathon held in Central Park today!
Letsrun's John Kellog picked the individual qualifiers out of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic as follows...
Northeast
1 Shane Quinn Providence
2 Chris Johnson Colgate
3 Will Geoghegan Dartmouth
4 Erik Speakman Stony Brook (I dont know about this one)
Mid-Atlantic
1 Travis Mahoney Temple
2 Alfredo Santana LaSalle
3 Jim Spizak Duquesne (Possibly if he can return to form)
4 Mark Allen American
My Picks...
Northeast
1 Shane Quinn Providence
2 Will Geoghegan Dartmouth
3 Chris Johnson Colgate
4 Alex Wallace Providence
Mid-Atlantic
1 Travis Mahoney Temple
2 Alfredo Santana LaSalle
3 Mark Allen American
4 Jim Spizak Duquesne
Anyone else care to venture a guess?
TORTUGA!
I am no expert on the men's races but wanted to bump this thread. I offer Individual Predictions From Isaac Wood on FloTrack
Mid-Atlantic
Jim Spisak- Duquesne*
Travis Mahoney- Temple*
Robby Creese- Penn State*
Alfredo Santana- La Salle*
Northeast
Shane Quinn- Providence*
Will Geohegan- Dartmouth*
Maksim Karolev- Harvard*
Phil Royer- Dartmouth*
Clearly Isaac is not so optimistic about the guys from the Patriot League. Here's to proving him wrong.
EYYYYYYYYYYYYYY gater em up and run around the christmas tree
Looks like Mark Allen qualified out of the Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn St!
Assuming Princeton gets an at large the individual qualifiers look like this:
Travis Mahoney
Mark Allen
Jim Spisak
Sam Masters***
*** Real sketchy that Sam Masters from Penn St. did not register a mile time out on the course. Im thinking that Penn St. somehow plotted a way for him to slip into the race right before the 3 mile mark. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! FU*K PENN ST!!!
Damn Penn St. officials...This screws over John Pope (American) who was the last one out in 5th. We have a conspiracy theory on our hands
Johnson didn't make it from the NE. Iona was incredible! Both PC (1st) and UCONN (2nd) beat Cornell in the women's race. Junta was best Patriot League finisher - ran well!
Say what?
American the 4th place PL team finishes 4th at the Regional ahead of the home team PSU.
Great race by AU.
PL places 5 runners in top 25 and on the All Region Team.
Hell ya!

Best performance from a Patriot League team in Firday's regionals. Too bad only Allen gets to go the Nationals but a great race for him. Allen joined by Navy's Beveridge who qualified as an individual for the women.
