Intellectual numbers guys remember their times. They have a talent for it. Or they damn well should.
Which means 1 of 2 things. Ryan lied. Or the claims of him having a special talent for encyclopedic numbers knowledge are bull. One or the other.
Rojo, you may be right. He might have "misremembered." fine--all that means is his touted number sense is nonsense.
You don't "misremember" a 4:01 marathon as "2:50-something." You're lying to make yourself look more impressive. Serious character flaw.

Why would he ever have given up his US citizenship?
People do renounce their US citizenship, usually for tax reasons.
The US is the only country that taxes nationals living and working overseas.
It's not cognitive dissonance that's on display with Rojo here. Instead he shows classic signs of the fundamental attribution error: when you (or someone you like) does something bad, there's always an innocent excuse (external cause) for it. In contrast, when someone else does something similar, it's attributed to his character (internal cause).
Joe Biden, by the way, owned up to it and paid for the alleged plagiarism by withdrawing from the 1988 presidential race when he was caught ought. I don't expect we'll see the same from Paul Ryan.

I agree with runtime. Rojo is embarassing himself and letsrun by trying to justify what Ryan said. Even the republicans were pretty unanimous in saying that Ryan lied repeatedly during his acceptance speech, so the marathon time lie was merely a prelude. Shame on Rojo and Ryan. If the right wing ROJO can't be you know what, then he needs to keep politics out of his forum. But apparently anything goes.
This really upsets me; perhaps the only time I have gotten upset with him. But this stinks of right wing politics gone astray.
Is a sub 3 hour marathon actually considered fast? By the general population it is, but I'd have to think that runners that actually do max out at 2:5x for the marathon AREN'T too arrogant since they are 20-50+ minutes behind the winners.
I've never done a marathon and probably won't because I like shorter events but I would NOT say, "Yeah, I was pretty fast. I got a 2:5x when I was younger." I'd say, "yeah, I got a sub 16 5K which is ok but not that fast compared to elite runners."
Here' the other thing about this. It's not just that he claimed sub 3 marathon. He also claimed that he "doesn't run marathons anymore. I just run ten miles..." saying it as though he used to run marathons a lot, but now he's just limited to ten mile runs. (which, by the way, he makes it sound like he does routinely, which i'd be very very surprised if he actually does. )

PR: Yeah, but I can’t do it anymore, because my back is just not that great.
HH: I’ve just gotta ask, what’s your personal best?
PR: Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.

Notice the plural and the confirmation. I mean, clearly this is someone lying. It's not misremembering. You don't misremember running multiple marathons when you've run one. After the serious pain I had after running one marathon, i remember swearing i'd never run another. Of course I ran many more, but that's another story. Point is, if someone asked me what my PR is after I'd run one marathon, I would've said, "Well I've only run one marathon so I guess it's a PR but it took me more than four hours." Of course, this isn't what he said. Paul Ryan was very clearly meaning to mislead here...

4. In December 2008 GM idled production of GM SUVs at the Janesville plant. Medium-duty truck assembly continued.
5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks.
