I didn't realize Josh McDougal had gone under 8-minutes. What's his 3000 PR?
Also, I'm pretty sure McDougal is only 7-months older than Rupp.
McDougal ran a solo 7:55.70 yesterday at the IC4As to win by 20 seconds. Someone else on this thread said he is 1 yr 2 mos older than Rupp.
FWIW, McDougal's solo 7:55.70 was on BU's 200m banked track while Rupp's 7:58.02 was on UW's 307m track. Seems like an oversized track would offer an advantage.
macdougal would have killed rupp, and would have run sub 7 50 in washington, along with beating gouch
BU Track is about as fast as you get, about same level as Arkansas and Armory.Altho the oversized unbanked probably balances that out.
However while I don't know if MCDougal is beating Goucher any day soon, he surely would have been right there in that one.
He(McD) ran the superior effort for sure. A 20 second unpressed win is probably worth a bit more than that 7:55 he ran.

Wow, I was just looking through the results and Tony Young ran 4:05 at 42 years old. That is impressive.
That ain't shit!! Back in my day we ran 4:10 in a blizzard while shoveling snow. Let's see Young try that.
Go Portland! Post the 5K results too...
I think I read before that all Rupp's training is gearing towards World Juniors. I don't think hes nearly peaked yet...this was just a training run.

I doubt it was anything less than a 98% effort, if not 100%. That's too fast for him for it to just be training run.
``< I have been more amazed with Galen Rupp performances as a Junior than Dathan's and feel if Galen remains healthy this year he could possibly shatter the outdoor AJR for 5000m and 1000m by runnning: 13:27 (5000m) and 28:09 (10000m). %%>
A better question is what makes you think the AJR's are 13:28 and 28:10?
I believe the 5k AJR is Sanchez's unless Rupp broke it, and the 10k AJR is Chapa's 28:32.
Dathan ran 13:27 as a frosh but that mark did not qualify as a junior mark. He was born 2 days too early.
3000 m 7:58.0 Gerry Lindgren Wash St. U. Karlsruhe (DEU) 7/5/65
3000 m Steeplechase 8:33.8 John Gregorek Georgetown Philadelphia, PA 5/20/79
5000 m 13:37.91 Galen Rupp USA Heusden-Zolder (BEL) 7/31/04
10000 m 28:32.7 Rudy Chapa Ind. HS Des Moines, IA 4/24/76
It took 3 seconds to find it. Rupp could possibly break all of these this year. I wouldn't think that he would try for the Steeple though. I guess I remember that Sanchez ran 13:39 now that I think about it.
Where are all you idiot Goucher bashers at? Seems like once again you go into hiding. What I don't get is why people constantly want to say he is useless and never was any good. What a NON surprise that when he got up to Portland with my boys he starts to roll. He will have a great year this year, will be on the WC team, and will do well because he has balls, for many years in this country the only one that has a set besides Bob, and now Ritz. Wake up people, you are going to hear from Mr Goucher again in a big way this year and when he runs under 13:10 this summer I am sure just as of now no one will be saying crap. Just wait until he gets to a peak area with his training this summer.
The marks I listed were what I feel Galen is capable of running this year and not reference to the current American Junior Records, so I think you need to reread that post!

Balls=more talent than all other Americans
The distinction between balls/guts and talent to run faster than others should not be bastardized as many do. I have run until I have passed out. I have pushed my limits regularly in racing. However, I do not think I am the only one to do this. It would be ignorant and arrogant of me to think so. Some people at the 13:20-13:30 level might not always put themselves all the way out there, but I would be willing that most do. They just lack the talent of Goucher, BK, and Ritz. And please, don't get me started on Pre and how he had more guts than anybody. That is the biggest lie I have ever heard.
I would reread it if I could find one by "TerrorfyingNightmare".
Did you decide to change your handle again? What does VIPAM mean anyway?
Vipam please do me a favor and contact me I am looking for a little help identifying some people in a photo perhaps you may know who they are

I bashed Goucher last year. Not really HIM, but his chances for making the Olympic team. He ran some unbelievably bad times, including a 3:55 non-tactical 1500m during early outdoors. I then said he had no chance for Athens, because no one improves that much that fast.
Every year on here we have people state that an very subpar performing runner simply needs to peak. I say if you're not performing reasonably well, then some switch is not going to be turned on in the big meet.

I agree with you, partly, but to say Goucher has balls is an understatement. Perhaps he has the talent, and doesn't push himself harder than many other people in a race, but the man has been through more shit than imaginable and he won't give up. You see the same thing with BK and ritz, they get injured all the time, but they always come back looking to take the best in the world on. Few people, if any, would be looking to compete at a world class level after having been through what Goucher has the past few years. Maybe that's what the other guy meant by balls, and if he did, I think we can all agree that Goucher has some huge ones.
goucher is a class act. i hope he runs 13:05 this year and proves the naysayers wrong!!!
I think other get injured and come back and still improve. They have more balls b/c they do not even have a chance of winnin US titles but they still work their butts off and PR. I see that as more "ballsy" than a guy who just has to get healthy in order to beat the whole country. The key difference here is talent. If the others guys had talent then they sure would work as hard as they do now to come back after injury.
