Well, of course you can't do that, but it does point out that there is not much consistency or reason to why we societally sanction some treatments of animals and withhold sanction on other treatments. There is no real rational reason that it should be illegal to eat horse or dog flesh and no rational reason that we should as a society approve of some of the processes regularly used in factory farming.

Networked kids got the word out and a few hours later hundreds of dogs were rescued and put in homes.So sentiments are culturally conditioned. There is no reason not to eat dog or it eat. It's simply a protein thing.That said, if I know it kicked and screamed to its death like I would if I were boiled alive, I would be disinclined to eat it.That's my .02.

I'm pro lobster and also pro choice. The government shouldn't be able to tell me whether it is cruel to boil lobsters.

I think many of the lobster-CNS arguments are also arguments that you'd love to cling to in order to ease your raging conscience.
Lobsters were born to be boiled alive. There is nothing wrong with dropping them in a boiling pot of water and hearing them try to claw their way out as they boil to death. If you can get over that then lobster is quite delicious and enjoyable.
The whole question is, why boil them alive? Bottom line is we don't know what they experience EXACTLY, but it is reasonable assumption that it is not a pleasant experience.
Why not put them in the freezer, as my link suggests, they slowly become essentially comatose, then cut em up.
I know of a person dunking their child in boiling water, beyond horrible.
Sometimes I boil lobsters just to watch them die.

Ever taken an ice bath? Freezing to death wouldn't be much harder. At first it sucks but within a couple minutes it almost feels good. That's how I'd imagine freezing to death to feel. If I had my choice of ways to die, I'd pick freezing.
Putting them in the freezer first does seem like a good idea, but it's not what I do. Unfortunately, I do not own a large enough pot to boil the creature whole so I typically boil the creature one end at a time.

Wallace sounds like a prick. It's a festival. Why would someone not expect styrofoam and plastic utensils?
Be apprised, though, that the Main Eating Tent’s suppers come in Styrofoam trays, and the soft drinks are iceless and flat, and the coffee is convenience-store coffee in yet more Styrofoam, and the utensils are plastic (there are none of the special long skinny forks for pushing out the tail meat, though a few savvy diners bring their own). Nor do they give you near enough napkins, considering how messy lobster is to eat, especially when you’re squeezed onto benches alongside children of various ages
